[8:19 PM EST - Scene Survey: More skiing.]

I got a link from girl "just for fun".

I went skiing again today. It was such a nice day out there. It started to snow for a bit, but the skies cleared up and it was a mostly sunny (albeit cold and windy) day today. The snow was also much better. It was granular, which isn't great, but better than slush. Besides, it gave me another type of snow to practice on (and boy, do I need more practice). One more week until the test. I wonder if I'll be ready?

[8:28 PM EST - Standing in line has it's perks..]

Whoa, this (The stripper thing. You may have to scroll down a bit.) was up yesterday on the ShackNews, but it's interesting to know how much publicity those two are getting.

[8:40 PM EST - Flat panels.]

Ooh, ArsTechnica has a buyer's guide for LCD monitors. I'll keep this link handy for future reference.

[9:13 PM EST - Could you.. uh, slow it down a bit?]

At least that was what I was trying to say. While I was patrolling, one of the ski instructors teaching a bunch of tots came up to me asking if I could escort a few kids up the lift becuase he couldn't watch over them all. "Now go with the nice ski patroler and follow what he says." Hee hee.

He told me to tell the liftee to slow down the lift when the kids were getting on and off so that they don't get killed. In hindsight, I probably should've let him go first, but I was feeling gung ho, so I hurried my group into line and waited for the lift. Well, getting the kids in line wasn't hard, and keeping them in check wasn't hard either (they were around five or so). But when I got to the end of the line, I told the liftee to slow the lift down. He didn't hear me or didn't understand me because I had to repeat myself. Now, had I actually wearing a patrol jacket, he might've been more attentive (the instructor noticed because I was wearing a bum bag and armband, both of which were hidden from the liftee's view). Well, I was getting ready to tell the liftee to slow the chairs down a third time, when I felt a huge force struck me from the left and I hit the ground. The only thing that was going through my mind was "I hope it doesn't hit any of the kids". I watched in horror (from the ground) as the liftee, after seeing me struck, head to the control panel, leaving the wildly swinging chair to scoop up one of the tots who wandered forward for some godforsaken reason.

I was so amazed to see the chair swing underneath the kid, and lift him right off his feet, just as the lift came to a stop. The kid was uninjured. He was quite fine actually. At that point, I got a hold of myself and got the kids on the chair and went up. It wasn't until I went down a couple of times when I noticed that my knee was feeling funny, and that my ski pole was bent.

I am so lucky that I didn't get more injured, and even more lucky that none of the kids were hurt. *wipes forehead* I guess this is a lesson learned: Tell kids beforehand what to do so that they don't go ahead and get themselves (or someone else) killed. I'll remember this the next time I'm asked to chaperone some children. *rubs knee*

Oh yeah, this was also a day where we had three accients happen almost simultaneously. It was quite hectic, although quite educational. Namely, that I need more practice with my first aid.

While we're on the topic of accidents, we had a nasty one just as we were finishing up with our training today. (Well, when I was finishing up my training. I was just about to leave afterward.) Another learning experience.

Cripes, today was definitely an indication of things to come if I ever pass that test!

[9:32 PM EST - Maya, maya, Maya, MAYA!]

I've been checking out ArsTechnica and came across this tidbit. Anyone interested in trying out some 3D animation? How about optical storage?

[11:02 PM EST - Falling behind.]

With all of this stuff that I've been doing lately, I haven't had time to check up on people's web sites. I'm months behind on reading up on everybody's antics, and I don't see any chance in the foreseeable future where I can actually sit down and catch up.

Is this a sign of actually having a life? *thinks* Nah. I think it's just filling up more of my free time with garbage. I barely have time to do some of the other stuff I've been meaning to do (mostly bookkeeping stuff). *sigh* I wanted to do a lot of catching up during the winter break, and all I ended up doing was being busy. Busy, busy, busy. That's all that I ever am. Sucky.

[11:36 PM EST - The Cosmos is complete.]

I finally finished Carl Sagan's "Cosmos". It's a good read for anyone interested in science and the history of it. It's even written in a low enough language for just about anyone to understand the underlying themes and implications of his ideas.
