[12:03 AM EDT - Ready to sleep.]

Well, we should be leaving for Montreal early this morning. Laz came by to pick up Homeworld (for Growly) and we managed to convince him to stay for dinner (he came while we were happily eating away). It was good too, since we needed help finishing the food. Afterward, we went out to play some roller hockey with the night crew. The lights were out in the main lot so we were relegated to one of the smaller lots. It made it more arena like, although it was really tight with nine people playing.

It was hot too. Way too hot to do any sort of exercise. It was the same temperature tonight as it was today! Except that there wasn't any sun.. Oh man, this is one heck of a heat wave..

[12:11 AM EDT - Farts are bad.]

Hey, I was at the ShackNews and came across two articles. One was about a study on the types of passwords that people use, while the other is about farts spreading bacteria. Eew.

[Tuesday, July 3, 2001: Arrival.]

So, we left for Montreal a little later than we had planned (we had planned to leave around eight, but really got up at eight). Still, traffic wasn't too bad leaving the city, and most of the drive out was pretty good. We switched drivers so as to share the driving burden.

During the drive, I was asked what two major resources were exported by Quebec. I came up with energy and wood. I was told that it was electricity and strippers. *thinks* Isn't that the same thing?

We arrived at the city in the mid-afternoon. The weather was hot. We were passing by a sign displaying the temperature and we were dumbfounded to see that the gauge was reading 36 degrees. Stepping out of the car confirmed our fears, and as the cool, air-conditioned air dispersed into the hot mugginess, I knew that I wanted to stay inside, and out of the sun. Too bad the house didn't have air conditioning. *sweats*

We didn't really have a plan, so we basically hung around the house trying to decide what to do. (As well as sweat as little as possible.) Eventually, it was decided that we were going to go downtown to eat ribs and check out the Jazz Festival.

[Thursday, July 5, 2001: Family history.]

So, we had decided to go down to watch the Jazz festival and maybe to watch the fireworks that night (The Symphony of Fire). Before we went there, we stopped off at the Bar B Barn for dinner. KW kept mentioning how good the ribs were here, so we had to come, despite dragging a vegetarian with us. I personally don't like ribs too much. (Nor steak, nor excess quantities of meat.) I still ordered a plate of ribs because, heck, you've got to try the house special right? Well, the ribs were FANTASTIC! Oh my lord! I can't believe how good the were! Mmm.. *drools*

I didn't eat a lot at the Bar B Barn because the next stop was Ben & Jerry's for dessert. (I got chocolate fudge ice cream in a chocolate sprinkled chocolate covered waffle cone of course!) Desite the on-and-off rain, we managed to miss out on the worst of the precipitation. Oddly enough, it seemed as if each time girl visited Montreal, she'd bring bad weather along with her. (Keep this in mind, it'll haunt the rest of our trip.)

After food, we did a little wandering around before hopping into the car to check out some of the houses where our family and relatives used to live. Wow, it was a nice little neighborhood. The area's gotten pretty trendy in the last decade or so, but most of the houses still looked the same (from what they told me). Along with the tour of the old stomping grounds, we were given a long history of the family in the area. There was quite a lot there that I didn't know about. I guess talking about family history isn't one of those things that we usually do, but I guess going back to the old neighborhood brings back a lot of memories. (For them, not me.)

Afterward, we picked up some Montreal style bagels from La Maison Du Bagel, and headed back downtown for the Jazz Festival.

[Saturday, July 7, 2001: La festival du jazz.]

Finding parking in downtown Montreal is always a hassle, it's even worse when there's a festival going on. Fortunately (or unfortunately) the weather wasn't particularly good that night, so we were able to find a spot eventually that wasn't too far from the action. Arming ourselves with a number of umbrellas, we headed down to the festival (i.e. we followed the music) and proceeded to check out the events. The music was okay.. it started off good with some man/lady (we couldn't tell) doing some good jazz tunes and lounge singing. Later we wandered down to watch some buskers performing some feats with flaming weapons (swords, morning stars, etc.). It looked impressive, but really, it was only the fire that made the show stand out. Most of their acrobatics were standard martial arts fare, and with the rain, the flaming weapons weren't flaming for very long. We then stood by and watched some "French" jazz (Creole/Loiusiana stuff actually) and then finally ended up listening to rap. (Jazz rap?) Siting the poor weather and the so-so music, we headed back to the car. During one of the downpours, K opened up the big umbrella, but pushed the.. uh, what's that middle part called? Anyway, K pushed it up too far and ended up inverting it, thereby making the umbrella semi-useless. Pulling it back out was nearly impossible, so they walked around with the floopy umbrella until I switched with them. I took a hand at trying to fix the umbrella by turning it inside-out (like those umbrellas you see on windy days). After that, it was a simple proceedure to pull the umbrella back together and open it properly. Well, that was the plan at least, since it was so windy, and the umbrella was so large, I had some troubles trying to hold it in place while uninverting it, when some lady came up to me and helped me out. It didn't take long, I just needed some support and after it was fixed, I quickly thanked her and continued with the rest of the group. Curses, I should've talked to her! (She had a nice voice.) I didn't even get a good look! *shakes head* Boy, I gotta work on my female interaction skills.

Anyway, the rain really started to come down, so we headed back to the car. After getting in, KW wanted to meet up with one of his friends, so we ended up getting into the middle of a traffic jam (since everyone else was leaving due to the rain). We dropped off KW and told him that we'd pick him up on the other side. Boy did that take a long time. We eventually gave up on the idea and decided to park and walk. Since we were in Chinatown, we decided to go and have a midnight snack. We bumped into KW and a couple of his friends before we left for the house.
