[Wednesday, December 19, 2007: Driving Conditions: A snafro.]

I really like my underground garage. It is slightly heated, so I would drive home with ice or snow built up on my car and by the next morning, the vehicle is nice and clean, ready to tackle the morning rush!

However, it was not always like this. I do recall many mornings where I would have to break out the brush and clear off the snow from the windows, the hood, and the roof of the car after a particularly large dump. I still need to do this once in a while, since our work place has no covered lot, and I am forced to leave the car exposed to the elements during the work days.

The huge storm we had on Sunday buried a lot of vehicles in it's wake, and I am pretty sure that many drivers were cursing mother nature for her hand in dropping this white present on our land. For the most part, the cars that I saw were pretty clean, with most of the snow built up on the back, covering the license plate and rear lights. There was the occasional transport truck which had snow billowing from the top of the trailer, which was normally too high for anyone to easily clear. But one car in particular caught my attention. This car managed to get in front of me (in the passing lane), drive slow, and leave little presents behind it, like some goose with diarrhea.

The owner of the car only cleared off the side windows and left a nice mound of snow on top of the car nearly a foot thick. There was probably more snow that was left on the car when the driver originally started the car, but the wind had eroded the tuft of snow so that the width of the mound was only covering two-thirds of the back of the roof. I wanted to find some way around this vehicle but traffic was so bad that I had no recourse but to follow. When traffic did pick up, and the car in front started to accelerate, snow started to fly from the top of the car, leaving a mist of fog in it's wake. I had to slow down significantly to make sure I could still see ahead of me (on the off chance the driver makes an emergency stop). Large chunks of snow would fly out from the top and explode in the air on the ground in a shower of flakes, further distracting my gaze.

I got out of the way as soon as I could.

People: Clean your cars!!

[Tuesday, January 8, 2008: Piles of snow.]

After the huge snow storm, there were a lot of huge piles of snow where the plows had collected the contents of the snow covered parking lots into a single location. There were two large hills of snow in the middle of our parking lot, and that did not include the walls of snow that lined one side of the lot itself!

I was tempted to grab something so that I could slide down it, and I was pretty sure TT was thinking of bringing his board onto this thing, but I decided that it probably would not be a good idea.
