Last night while I was riding home from my parents place, I came across the construction zone that was slowing down traffic in my area. The main street down here was reduced to two lanes so that the road could be resurfaced, but this proved to wreak havoc on traffic during rush hours since a person turning left would effectively halt all movement in one direction. Traffic is not so bad at night so I usually take the road rather than wade through the sea of stop signs on the residential routes. I was pretty much used to the configuration going south: keep moving to the left. (The western lanes were being resurfaced.)
This evening, I was driving behind one guy and noticed that the signs ahead were pointing to the right. The guy in front of me drifted to the left, and I began to follow him (as did a few people behind me) but I realized that something was wrong. The guy in front probably noticed too, and eventually slowed down so much that the entire traffic column came to a stop. I took that opportunity to squeeze by that car on the right and realized that the construction zone had switched sides. With nobody in front of me, I made pretty good time on that leg of the trip home.
