I rode to work today. Traffic was decent, but when I got to the entrance gate, the card did not register and the gate did not open. I usually keep my card in my wallet in my pocket of my jacket. It works when I use it at my condo, and I figured that this one was different, so I took the wallet out and waved it in front of the sensor. No dice.
I then proceeded to pull the card out of the wallet and waved it in front of the gate. No dice.
By this time, there was a line up of cars behind me, waiting to get in, so I started backing up my bike to let the car behind me go. The driver actually came out of his car and waved his card in front of the sensor. No dice.
He then pressed the security button and got the security guy to open the gate to let us in.
Now that I think about it, could the device be linked to a scale to make sure that there is a car in the driveway before it opens the gate?
I could have brought my car in to get it checked but I wanted to go to badminton. Badminton was okay, but I probably should have gotten the car repaired but the weather was so good that I wanted to bike. I'll be bringing it in on my day off.

We went to Johnny's Burgers for lunch today, and RM was unable to finish his lunch. He had ordered a banquet burger with fries, a drink, and some gravy but was only able to finish half of his meal. He was about to throw it out(!) so I quickly intercepted the food and offered to finish it off. He let me take the box and I happily added it to my order of a burger, fries and drink.
Oh crap. I guess I broke my vow not to eat too much again huh? Well, at least I had enough food in me to keep my dinner small: a bunch of red grapes.

Perhaps it detects metal and not weight? I once read somewhere that if you're riding a bicycle and you're stopped a minor intersection, the sensor embedded in the road may not detect you because your cross section is so small. The suggestion was to lower your bike to make it more horizontal so that the sensor can then detect you and change the light. --- HKL

Yeah, they have these triple white spots at some intersections where you could stop your bike and it would also trigger the traffic lights. I guess there were enough complains from two wheeled riders to prompt the city to implement this secondary sensor.
The trigger at the gate is slightly different since it seems to have sensors where the tires should be for a car when the driver window is near the card reader. I do not think that I would be able to trigger the sensor with my bike.
