[9:04 AM EST - Passport renewal (part deux).]

I got up early this morning (again) so that I could go down to the passport office and renew my passport. (Actually, you can't renew a passport per se, you need to get a new one.)

Since I had gone down to the office yesterday, I knew how to get there and had no trouble finding parking and the office. I tried to pay for parking with my credit card, but the machine couldn't recognize my card! I only had a loonie on me, so I was pretty much on the hook for more time as it only bought me thirty minutes, and from what I saw of the waiting room the last time I was there, thirty minutes will not be enough to get me to find a seat, much less get my paperwork done!

But I had decided to do it this way, and get my stuff done ASAP so I headed in. I went to the pre-checkin room to have my documents looked at and the lady at the counter gave it a quick glance and told me,

"Since you did your application on line, you can skip to the head of the line."

What? I was still confused as I was ushered off to the security guard who told me to sit down at a chair next to the door. He was telling me that since I was being fasttracked, I could finish in a few minutes.

<- blank stare.

What? I was then led to yet another security guard who wrote down a number on my application form and was told that it would be the next number that would show up on the waiting list.

<- looks at form.

A006.

<- looks at display.

A005.

Sweet. I waited several minutes before a kiosk became available and everything went very smoothly. I even got my birth certificate and passport (after it was canceled) back! The entire process from entering the building to leaving took fifteen minutes. That's no hyperbole!

Folks, if you've got a passport to renew, and you're pressed for time, on line is the way to go. Yay for technology!

(As such, I ended up getting to work even earlier than yesterday.)

[9:11 AM EST - Pack it in, pack it in.]

I had forgotten about a commitment I made for Saturday and now my time's getting very tight. I was hoping to go to the hill to help out with the dummy, but I may not have the time (or the gas for that matter) to make it out there.

[Sunday, March 5, 2006: Tepid shower.]

When I took my shower this morning, there was very little hot water. In fact, I had turned the dial all the way to hot, and I only had a luke warm stream of water coming out from the shower head. I've never had this problem with lack of hot water before, and I was wondering in the back of my mind whether if the new committee had decided to reduce costs by reducing the heating..

Oh, my passport's supposed to arrive on the 16th so I should have plenty of time.

[Monday, March 6, 2006: Cats in the alley.]

Pokey had guilted me into coming out to the party tonight since she's going away for a while. I was a little hesitant since there were so few people going that I knew (Pokey told me that Dangerman, girl, VC, SR and MR were going). And I wasn't sure what kind of place this was.

I tend not to like to go to clubs as it's usually really hard to talk, I don't drink, and until recently, the smoke bothered me (worse now since surgery). But I went anyway since it was close to my place.

I got there late, as I had planned, and when I got there, I was stopped at the door by a couple of fellows in casual attire telling me that there was a cover of ten bucks.

What? Nobody told me there was a cover!

He pointed to a piece of paper taped on the window stating that there was a cover of ten dollars. Now, these two fellows looked like the could've walked off the street and started taking money just for the heck of it, so I was a little skeptical until another guy walked out with a wad of cash. I paid him the money and went in.

The place was not overly busy, but the live entertainment hadn't started up and it was still relatively early. I bumped into VC first and then met up with Pokey. Then I found SR and MR and talked to them for a bit. There was another couple there, but I forgot their names.

We ended up chatting for a bit as more and more people poured into the club. When the live band started up, it became nigh impossible to hear anyone speaking. But I do remember giving the girl my business card since it had a e-mail address. That's about it.

Pokey seemed to have a good time, but I didn't actually see her much, and after the two couples left, I decided to take off. I left VC there to his own devices and to keep an eye on Pokey.
