[10:28 AM EST - Choo.. chew..]

Well, I got them on. The braces feel a little funny, but they don't hurt, and they don't affect my speech (that I could tell at least). I got in this morning to the doctor's office and was sat down at one of the dental chairs. They stuck this plastic guard in my mouth to keep it open and prevent my tongue from making a mess of things. It was somewhat uncomfortable and I had a bit of trouble breathing, but I somehow manage to keep my airway open. They then proceeded to polish my teeth and apply some acid to remove anything that might hinder the bonding process.

Each individual bracket was placed on each tooth one at a time. It was a fairly time consuming process, especially with my mouth gaped open like that and my lips getting drier every second. It was done relatively quickly though and with just the brackets, it felt like.. well, like I had things stuck to my teeth. It wasn't uncomfortable, just annoying.

I then got the wire put into place and the elastics installed. I thought that there would be a lot more tension, but I really don't feel all that much. There's a teeny weeny pull on my teeth, but I guess since my teeth aren't that badly misaligned, they don't have to really crank up the pressure.

While the brackets were being installed, I was told that they look a bit haphazard right now, and that's because my teeth are out of position. Once everything is properly in place, the brackets will line up.

Oh, and one more thing, just as they finished putting on the brackets, I was thinking of Billy Joel's "She's always a Woman" and it came on on the radio. Creepy.

[10:30 AM EST - This is what happens when you fly cheap.]

Argh, our flight to Las Vegas got rescheduled! We leave two hours earlier, which means that we've got a three hour layover in Los Angeles instead of one. A long time to wait, and not enough to go and explore. Crappy!

[1:09 PM EST - First meal.]

After the brackets were put on my teeth, I was given a list of foods to avoid and/or prepare:

I'm a little annoyed about the gum, but the rest I can handle.

I'm going to be having my first meal with the new hardware installed. It's leftovers. We'll see how it goes..

[4:24 PM EST - That was a long lunch.]

It's taken me a bit longer than anticipated to finish off my first meal with the new hardware. Let's just say that it was quite a learning experience. I had to relearn how to chew, and take very small bites. (I usually just stuff my mouth and chew until I'm done.) It took about.. three hours of off and on eating to get everything down, so unless I find a better way of doing this, the next two years are going to be very long indeed..

[5:32 PM EST - Be my valentine?]

Aww, ain't that sweet? I haven't gotten a valentine in years! (Or a singing telegram.)

[7:01 PM EST - Starting to get tender..]

Hmm, I guess there is a constant pressure being applied to my teeth. They're starting to feel a little tender in the front.

[7:47 PM EST - Tender vittles.]

Ugh, now that my teeth are tender from the constant strain of the braces, chewing has become much more difficult. Lunch was difficult because I wasn't used to the limitations imposed by the equipment, but now I'm limited by how much pressure I can apply. I think I might have to go to something more liquid for the near future..

[8:00 PM EST - Being late can suck.]

Since I had my teeth worked on this morning, I arrived late to work. As such, I couldn't find any parking space in the lot and ended up leaving the car on the upper deck. The deck was actually quite empty considering.

[11:41 PM EST - Brushing is okay..]

But flossing is a pain! Good grief! There's no way I'll be able to find the time to floss every day! I spent the last twenty minutes doing the bottom teeth!
