[Sunday, July 16, 2000: Children of the atom.]

Didn't do much today. Played a bit more Diablo 2, found out that the nightmare level is much tougher than normal (and there's still another level up!), and am still collecting items.

I'm actually quite impressed by the amount of research the designers did for the game, I didn't know what the heck a sabot was (although after being told by HNT that sabots were used to break machines during the industrial revolution it made a lot of sense). I'm also quite happy how they expanded the story, incorporating all of the little stories that they wrote up in the (original) Diablo manual. Quite impressed indeed.

The only thing I ended up doing today (apart from gaming) was to go out and watch 'X-Men'. As far as movies go, it was pretty good. A little short, but as conversions go, it was one of the best.

There are some inconsistencies between the comic series and the movie (for example, the whereabouts of two of the original X-Men, the rather youthful Iceman (Bobby), some people who should've recognized other people, and the Rouge-Wolverine thing..). They did incorporate Beast's scholarly nature into Jean Grey, and Angel isn't exactly the most exciting character either (although Archangel is one mean mofo..). Oh well. I guess the writers wanted to portray the most popular mutants, and the most popular one of them all, Wolverine.

For those of you who haven't read any of the comic series, this won't detract from the enjoyment of the movie. I like how they didn't introduce most of the X-Men (which at last count was over a dozen.. not including the other branches - X-Factor and Excalibur) so people new to the series won't get too confused. Furthermore *does the Wolverine sniff* I smell a sequel (or two, or ten).

The effects were good, and the story was okay, and it was enjoyable. I suggest people to go out and see it!
