Hey, it seems as if the cost for my high speed 'ADSL' line has gone up. What the hey? I really should start looking into alternate sources for my Internet. These prices are killer!

Hmm, are you still with Bell Sympatico? Switch to a 3rd party ISP! -- HKL

Would I not still need Bell for my phone line?

Hmm, you don't have a land line, do you? (Cell phone only?) Well, there is something called "dry DSL" -- that's where you have DSL but no voice phone service on the land line. There may be a setup fee and there will definitely be a monthly Dry DSL charge ($8/month or higher depending on your "Band Rate") *in addition* to the DSL monthly rate. A 3rd party ISP can run a dry DSL so you're not stuck with Bell. How much are you paying Bell?

About $25 for the phone line and $50 for the DSL connection.
