[Monday, September 12, 2005: Rocky Yakudo.]

I got up early so that I could make it to girl's breakfast thing. I didn't expect to see that many people show up, but it was good seeing Jules again. Maybe I was told this before, but apparently this breakfast thing was a way to get everyone who was going Taiko drumming today. I wasn't going because I couldn't afford the money and the time.

Anyway, while we were eating, Growly called in to say that he couldn't make breakfast, or the lesson. So girl started scrambling around to find someone who would go. Then she looked at me and said something to the effect of,

"You! You're coming."

At least that's how it felt at the time.

I actually had a bit of stuff to do for work and for the patrol, and I had planned to do it before I went to the dinner and show later that day. Well, it was already paid for, and I was curious..

So I tagged along and drove down to the Yakudo studio (which was actually on the way to Stage West).

The lesson was four hours long, and it involved some talking, some stretching, some posturing, and a lot of drum beating. I was sort of dressed up for the show, and I wasn't planning on doing anything strenuous before dinner, so I wasn't quite prepared for the workout that was ahead. In addition, both of my wrists were injured and I had to be very careful not to do some serious damage to them while I was banging on the cow skin.

It was fun though, I got to learn how to actually do this Taiko drumming thing and it was a good workout. I was extremely sore afterward though: My arms were barely able to lift my utensils, and my right leg was in need of a massage. I also found out that I had horrible rhythm and got messed up fairly easily, but I'm not a drummer, so that's all good. (Heck, I'm not even a musician.)

I'll leave out the details, but I would suggest anyone to try it out at least once just to see what it's like.

Since I was going to the Rocky Horror Show tonight, I went straight to Stage West after the seminar. (Despite my stinky condition.) I arrived a bit early, but I only waited for fifteen minutes or so before the rest of the group arrived.

Apart for the surprise that all the old boys were going to watch this show (I've seen part of 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' and it doesn't seem like the form of entertainment they would like to see). I was even more surprised when TS showed up instead of GS! I really didn't think it was something that was up TS's alley. But what's done is done.

Anyway, the food was fairly good. It was buffet style, but the stuff they had was fairly yummy. (Mmm.. seafood salad..) I had some trouble eating though. My sore arms made any sort of food manipulation difficult, and I couldn't seem to take a drink without spilling something on my shirt or pants.

The show itself went basically how I expected it to go. I was hoping that there would be more audience participation but after looking at the crowd, I figured that they were too old to be in the right age group for that sort of stuff. There were a few pockets of hecklers though.

Oh yeah, the old boys were definitely confused afterward, but I got my kicks out of it.
