[Saturday, August 18, 2007: Hot hot wings.]

We had planned to go out for wings to night as a farewell dinner for 2046-LM. This time he was actually leaving the country within the month.

I rode to work today despite the ominous warnings of thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening, but the weather looked so good when I woke up, and the forecast had changed so drastically that I figured that I could take the risk. EK also rode to work today, but GWG drove. Had he known that the weather would have stayed nice and clear I am pretty sure that he too would have brought his bike down.

I ended up working late and EK and GWG both came back late from a client site so I ended up riding with EK to the restaurant. I led the way, and he commented later how easy it was to follow me with my hand signals. Apparently he had only ridden with one other person and he too was a neophyte so neither of them have ridden with groups before. After we had found parking at the restaurant, a spot opened up right in front of the window where we were sitting so he rushed out to take the spot with his bike. There was no point for me to leave my bike in the spot and take up two slots so I too moved my bike. It seems silly, but I do feel a lot more comfortable being able to see my motorcycle while I am eating.

The dinner was okay. The restaurant was bigger than the other two establishments that we usually visit, and the waitresses and clientele were much better looking than the other places.

What was surprising was how not spicy the food was. I usually stick to the lower end spectrum as I have no tolerance for heat, but I tried some of the wings in the ranges that I would previously had thought unimaginable and they were all quite edible. Since we ordered two sets of one hundred wings (for seven of us), the boys got a bit more daring with the second batch and got a score and a handful of extremely hot wings. These wings were not at the top of the scale, but they were certainly hot. So hot that when I tried a little dab of the sauce, I needed to irrigate my mouth and throat for a while for the heat to subside. The funniest part was when AC tried one of the wings. His tolerance level was comparable to mine, and watching him cuss and dance around was enough to put GWG into conniptions. I too could not help it when AC was so delirious from the heat that he opened a packet of sugar and used that to kill the flavour. The sugar did not help, and the constant stream of water was not giving him any relief so EK offered him some ranch dressing. He immediately put his tongue into the tub of ranch, and immediately recoiled from the taste, exclaiming that it did not help with the heat. By now we were all suffering from laughing fits and tried to find anything else to give to AC to help his burning. He would have swallowed anything we offered him, but I did not feel that mischievous at the time. Unfortunately none of us were taking any pictures or videos of the event. Besides, my hands were dirty and I did not have a good camera to use.

During this entire period, quite a number of people were checking out our bikes, which made EK a little bit paranoid, but it was all good in the end. The ride back was interesting. EK took the lead, and I realized that he had only two speeds: Fast and stop. I could keep up for the most part, but I was not used to those speeds so it was a little hairy (especially with the new law that will be coming into effect soon for street racing).

I ended up peeling off early though as I wanted to drop by MIBAgentQ to see how the party was going at his place. There were not many people there. The usual suspects had shown up: JSL, Durka, Seven, Garfield, and R6_Chic. It was Serialize's birthday so I wanted to wish him a happy birthday, but he had left already, and R6_Chic had recently arrived. So compared to the previous BBQs, this was quite a small affair. I stuck around for a little while as they had food left, and basically forced me to eat. (I only had a few mouthfuls though.)

Afterwards, swung by my parents place to pick up a receipt (forgetting to drop off some other stuff in the process), and then went to SDM to pick up some toiletries. Dangerman sent me a shopping list and thirty-six hours to complete the task. Considering how busy I was, I was surprised I was able to fit in the time.

I got home afterwards without any incident, and I stayed up long enough to talk to MJNL for a bit.
