[9:43 AM BST - Turning the Gears of War..]

So MJO and I thought we would be playing Gears of War for a couple of hours before going to bed early. We got to Act 4, and decided that it was much too late in the morning to continue staying up. I am surprised I even got up this morning!

[7:03 PM BST - Mushy peas?]

What is it with these Brits and mushy peas? I went to eat fish and chips today, and we sat down next to a nice British couple. While we were ordering, the guy tells us (jokingly) that I need to order the mushy peas or they would not talk with us. So I did. Well, the mushy peas were kind of.. tasteless really.

[7:10 PM BST - Need some BBCode work.]

Okay, it seems as if my implementation of 'BBCode' is not perfect. I have some twiddling to do.

On another note, I need to wake up at six tomorrow morning. I should go to sleep soon!

[7:17 PM BST - Fish and chips, finally!]

I got up surprisingly early this morning considering how late I went to bed the previous night (and how late I normally got up while I was in Copenhagen). I guess it was a combination of the bean bag mattress and the noise from outside? In any case, the plan was to go out to lunch at some fish and chips joint (since I had not had any since I got here), and then head off to Manchester for the final leg of the trip.

MJO was able to find a really nice fish and chips joint somewhere in London, and we went there (after cleaning up at his place). He was telling me to expect a really tiny hole in the wall type of restaurant, but the place had a nice patio area and the food was quite good! (Not to mention very greasy and heavy.) We ended up sitting down to a nice couple who had a short chat about where we were all from.

Ah yes, so MJO and I were planning some sort of motorcycle trip to the eastern coast of Canada next year. Anyone interested in joining us?

It was not too hard to get to the train station and find my train (mostly because MJO was telling me where to go). Apparently the seats are reserved by these tags on the seats so that people who did not reserve a seat (like me) would not be able to sit there. Fortunately, I watched a couple in front of me, who was sitting at a seat with a table stand up, take their reservation ticket and find another seat on the train, so I relocated to their spot as it had a table and an outlet for my laptop.

I was looking outside at the countryside, and it looks like any other countryside that I have seen before. One difference was something I remembered from watching the show Connections: The 'Canals of the United Kingdom'. England has a lot of small canals that crisscross the countryside, and the railroad traveled near a number of them on the way up. We do not have anything like it in Canada, but I was interested in looking at these old highways of the early industrial age. I wonder if history would have been different if the Romans had decided to build these water canals instead of their road ways? Heck, the 'Roman roads' themselves were an innovation that allow the republic (and then empire) to expand and control vast areas of land.

Ah well, alternate history aside, it was nice to see something different.

[8:41 PM BST - Things are going well already.]

Well, I probably will skip dinner as lunch was a little later than usual and the battered fish is certainly sitting there in my stomach. I can eat, but I certainly do not feel like eating.

When I told the couple that I was going to Manchester later in the day, the guy asked me,

"Why would you want to go there?"

Oh great, how bad could it be?

It seems like none of the taxis in Manchester will take Visa. After asking a couple, I had to go back into the station to pull some money out so that I can pay by cash. I am pretty sure I will be charged a hefty service charge for that.

Fortunately the taxi driver I did get was a friendly bloke. After I asked him if he took Visa, he offered to drive me to a cash machine, which I declined as I had already pulled out some money. He drove to the hotel in good time.

When I arrived, I was told that both of the keys to the two rooms that were booked were already taken. Huh? That did not make sense. The girl (with a fantastic accent) gave me another key for yet another room which I used. I opened the room to find out that it had not been cleaned up. Confused, I set up my machine to find no Internet connections anywhere, and checked the room next to mine which seemed to be open, and also had the key in the lock.

Eventually MB came out of the adjacent room and told me that the room with the key was actually my room, and the room that I was in was actually KM's room. Ah ha! That made a bit more sense now. I relocated, gave the key back, and got settled. The Internet thing was taken care of, and I started catching up.

When I went into the bathroom, I noticed that the bar that you slipped the roll of toilet paper on was gone. The toilet paper was sitting on the counter. In addition, there was no soap or shampoo. Fortunately I brought some, but not enough to last. How many hotels do not provide soap and shampoo? (Motels, fine. Hotels though?)

In addition, there does not seem to be a fan in the bathroom, nor a clock in the bedroom. There is a television and a phone though, but I really need a wake up call tomorrow.

[9:00 PM BST - I was wrong on one count.]

Okay, on further inspection of the room, I was able to find a dispenser for hair and body wash solution. I was also able to find a hair dryer, a bible, extra linens, and a kettle. However, there was no facial tissue. I will be blowing my nose with toilet paper.
