[9:45 AM EDT - Driving Conditions: More crazy weavers and bottlenecks.]

I guess yesterday was an anomaly because all of the kids appeared in the neighborhood this morning. Traffic was worse than normal, but I was able to squeak through. Unfortunately for those commuters heading downtown, there has been construction on Avenue Rd. for the past several weeks and the Southbound route have been reduced down to a single lane (the Northbound lanes are still open) so traffic was backed up many many blocks.

On the highway I watched a car in the passing lane weave between two cars to get around the slower car ahead of him. (Ironically enough, he had to stop just a couple of car lengths ahead due to traffic.)

Now that wasn't as bad as last night when I was driving home from my parent's place. I was driving south towards the highway and could hear the whine of a tuned engine. Then a clunky old station wagon pulled up next to me, and the kid must have done something to the engine because he was keeping up with me. So I hit the speed limit and let him pass. Since he got stuck behind a car, he went behind me and tailgated me for a while until I found a break and got out of the way. Then he tailgated the car that was in front of me, a minivan, and squeezed in between it and the car in front of me in the right lane as the car in front of him was getting ready to switch into that lane. The cars avoided a collision and the station wagon went back into the left lane in front of the minivan and burned off.

Now that was dangerous.
