[11:46 AM EST - Network downshift.]

Oh, there was something that's been bothering me for a bit. I've got two 100/10Mb switches on my network, but I have never had any luck getting my main system to actually run at the fast ethernet speeds. I have to manually set the speed to 10Mbps or the network connection becomes unstable. I've constantly had this problem, although I've always blamed the cable for being the cause of my troubles.

When I was setting up the backup machine to replace girl's machine on Saturday, the network connection didn't work, the computer was indicating that the cable was unplugged. Switching ports seemed to reenable the connection, but I had no luck getting any packets through. After throttling the speed down to 10Mbps, the network came back up, and I haven't figured out the cause of this issue as girl's machine had no problem running at 100Mbps. Maybe it's just my luck with the networks?

[2:34 PM EST - Standing lights or dancing wave.]

On the way out to lunch, we ended up getting stuck in an intersection. The traffic lights here were behaving rather erratically. I had never seen traffic lights flashing so semi-randomly. It would flash red, then amber, then red and the green turn sign, then green, then amber, then amber again, etc.

If there was a pattern, I wasn't taking notes. The traffic was being routed through the intersection by two cops. The combination of the flashing traffic lights, the cop's hand signals and movements, combined with the dance music in my car which seemed to match to the beat of the lights (and the cops for that matter) had Laz and I thinking about making some sort of (stupid) dance video using footage of the events at this intersection. Give the cops some glosticks and we've got a street party! Yay!

There was a couple of bank machines near where we were eating (in the food court). As one of the machines was out of service, the other one generally had a long lineup, however Laz noticed that this line would grow and shrink over time.

"Like a wave. A standing wave."

I said.

Yeah, that was pretty dumb.

[6:03 PM EST - Bainite.]

I don't know what prompted this search, but I found this article on swords interesting.

[11:16 PM EST - Cheek chew.]

Ugh. I noticed this a few weeks ago, but it hasn't gone away. My cheeks feel like they've been knawed out. As if I've been chewing them at night. It's actually a little painful on the right side where I've cut through a fair bit of cheek. I'll let it go for a little longer before I do something about it.
