[Friday, February 3, 2006: I honestly don't remember too much.]

Today was Growly's birthday party. I believe that I spent most of the morning cleaning up my place. I got a call from Dangerman inviting me out to lunch. I didn't have anything better to do, so I went to some Chinese restaurant that BL recommended. The dim sum was okay, but I was annoyed that they didn't have any of those BBQ pork in rice noodle dishes! *shakes fist*

I went over to Dangerman's place afterward and hung around a bit (showing off some of this year's Dakar) before heading home to change.

This was supposed to be a formal event, with a bus rented out so that the entire gang could go to Paris, Ontario. I wasn't sure where we were going, but Dangerman mentioned something about a hotel, so I figured that it must've been some sort of swanky place.

I wasn't sure what my plans were for the weekend, whether I would stay over or go home after. But after I convinced myself that I didn't want to drive, I decided to go with girl and Dangerman. Laz was also partaking in this car pool, but he was a little late, so we went down to pick him up. (Traffic was bad going downtown, but even worse the other way!)

Despite the detour, and the traffic, we actually got to Growly's place pretty much on time! We arrived just as the (school) bus drove up, so we didn't stay long at the house.

Apparently the bus driver ran over the stop sign, so we all went to check that out before boarding the cheese wagon.

We arrived in Paris after a long drive through some dark back country roads and worries of getting lost and/or hijacked (by ghosts). Paris is quite a small town, and we stopped in front of a fairly dilapidated building. Our crew (of about thirty well dressed adults) were ushered into the building, which was actually a small bar. The smell of cigarette smoke permeated the air and assaulted my eyes and nostrils. It's been quite some time since I've been in an enclosed area with the smell of burnt tobacco.

So we found seats, got drinks, and chatted it up for the next couple of hours. (There were also two crazy lopsided hockey games on the television.) Someone eventually turned on some music and there was a bit of dancing on the small dance floor. A live band showed up later and the place started to fill up with locals, who started mingling with our group of partiers.

I personally didn't do all that much, but Growly asked me,

"Is there some girl you'd like to talk to?"

As he waved his hand to the crowd. Before I was able to respond, his attention was diverted elsewhere by someone who needed his expertise.

It was entertaining, but around midnight, most of us were already getting tired, and we eventually went back on the bus and headed back to the house. Some people were going to go out to do more partying, but our group was pretty much done for the night. We dropped Laz off at his place before heading back to Dangerman's place where I picked up my car and headed home.
