[12:12 AM EST - Just missed it.]

I overheard Derelict mumble something about it a few days ago, but I checked just now and found out that sending mail has gotten a bit more expensive and the rates took effect yesterday!

Derelict passed along a quote from this article so I decided to throw up the link.

Derelict passed along another link for a blooper sign.

[11:56 PM EST - Broomball assertion.]

I went to broomball tonight and didn't play all that well. It was okay though, I did run around a bit. I got gas (which came down in price) and went shopping for groceries afterward and found some good sales going on. (I had unfortunately forgotten what foods to get as I hadn't written down a shopping list beforehand.) I thought that there was some sort of sale on yogurt so I picked up two containers of the predigested milk. When I was going through the receipt though, I noticed that my yogurt didn't seem to be reduced in price.

Now normally I would just ignore it and go home, like I did last time with the meat, or cheese, or whatever, but I figured that one can't get ahead if you don't ask (the worst that could happen is that I'd be wrong and I won't get anything back). So I inquired about the yogurt and the cashier went to check it out. (It was pretty empty at the time.)

When he came back, he told me that the stuff on sale wasn't actually the yogurt that I got, but he gave me the difference anyway because the stuff I got was in the same spot as the sign. Woot!

[Wednesday, January 18, 2006: Power out again.]

The forecast for today called for freezing rain in the afternoon, so I wisely parked in the covered lot. I was surprised that it wasn't full by the time I got there, but I wasn't going to complain.

I didn't spend any time outside during the rain, but apparently it was really slippery out there. Just after four o'clock, the power in our building went out. After a few power surges, the lights went out for good. We sat around for half an hour before people started leaving. My laptop still functioned, but since the network was out, my hands were pretty much tied so I watched some more episodes from this year's Dakar.

Once five o'clock rolled around, there was basically nobody left in the office but Derelict and I, and we were being ushered out of the building since everyone else had left. I was the last to leave since it took a very long time for my computer to shut down. Ironically enough, just as I was about to step out of the office, the power returned and the lights came back on. I think things were back to normal because the lights were still on when I got to my car. Ah well.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to mail those two letters I was planning to send. I must've left them in the office, but it was so dark that I didn't even know that I had forgotten them on my desk! (And I even went out to pick up some one cent stamps before I came in to work as well!)

The drive back was surprisingly uneventful. It was a bit slower than normal, but not all that dangerous.

Oh, it was also supposed to be graduation day for the rookies at our patrol, but the hill was closed due to the freezing rain, so it's been postponed to next week (which is good because it would've been hard for me to go).
