[1:04 AM EST - It's late.]

I need to pick up my suit this morning so I should go to sleep. I hope the setup works because I'm too tired to look for any problems right now.

[9:15 AM EST - So the stub said "PM".]

Hmm, I went to pick up my suit and found out that it wasn't in yet. On the stub, there was actually a PM printed on it. *sigh* I guess I'll pick it up tomorrow then.

[9:37 AM EST - Chain Links: Japanese 24.]

Dangerman was telling me about this skit this past weekend. He sent the link last night.

[9:39 AM EST - Things are up, for now.]

It seems like the changes I made to the router seem to be holding. I was worried that the thing wouldn't work, but that was because I was testing from within the network! Ah well, I'll be keeping it up for a while to see how this new setup goes.

[10:33 AM EST - 350 Gs?]

Hmm, Derelict just picked up a hard drive which had a label on the drive that noted that the warranty was void if the drive experiences shock in excess of 350 Gs.

Now 350 Gs is quite a heck of a lot of acceleration. But achieving this value is not actually that difficult. Let's assume that we're hitting a brick wall with the drive. If the wall gives way, say ten centimetres (0.1 m), and we assume that there is constant deceleration then we can come up with a guess for the initial speed of the drive. Using those equations of motion that I had forgotten (and I had to look up again), and using the following equation:

vo2 = v2 - 2ad

With the following values:

v = 0 m/s
a = -350 G = -3500 m/s2
d = 10 cm = 0.1 m

We get the following value for vo: 26.5 m/s = 95 km/h.

Geez, that's under the speed limit!

Obviously, with more give, the initial speed will be higher, but even if we quadruple the penetration distance, we only double the speed, and getting through forty centimetres of reinforced concrete is going to be difficult.

Anyhoo, my point is that 350 Gs isn't as hard to attain as I originally thought.

[2:31 PM EST - Caveat Lector: No PSP for you!]

I find it odd that LY would forward this to us, but I guess it doesn't hurt right?

[6:02 PM EST - It sends! It sends!]

Whoot! I can send e-mail again! I had to uninstall postfix and reinstall to get it to work! Unfortunately, I can't seem to receive e-mail right now, but that's been a problem since I moved the server. *sigh*

I think it might have to do with the port being clobbered? But I could've sworn that I had it set up properly..

[6:03 PM EST - How I got it to work.]

Oh, apparently there was another guy who was in the same boat and was able to get e-mail to send fairly easily.

[11:16 PM EST - So that's why I can't receive mail..]

I see that sympatico does block port 25. Not much I can do about that. I'll have to figure a way around that..

[Thursday, November 10, 2005: Plus a bit of broomball.]

I went to broomball tonight, but most of the regulars didn't show up. The people who were remaining were mostly the better players in the group, which combined with the extra ice, made for a lot of running plays, and some pretty passes. It was unfortunate that we only had one goalie for the night as that was probably the deciding factor in the game.
