[Wednesday, April 9, 2003: Smuggler's Notch.]

We were the last to arrive at the condo. CM, LS, SS, and KB were already there. We sat around and talked for a while (everyone drank except for me). We continued to talk until CM started showing 'Jackass'. It's a pretty funny movie, although it's really, really crude (and disturbing).

So we never got to bed last night. By the time the movie was finished, the sun had already risen. SS made lasagna while KB made breakfast. The weather was cold, but it wasn't that windy, so it was okay. We went onto the hill basically when the hill opened and picked up our tickets. Just about everyone got three day passes since the plan was to ski our pants off for the weekend. We wandered over to the lift and hung around for several minutes wondering why it wasn't moving. Eventually, we found out that that lift was closed for the season, so we ended up going up the kiddy lift.

On the way up the lift, I ended up talking with some girl from Scotland. She had a cool accent.

There was an exit halfway up the lift and I was asking her how it worked, when I heard a loud cracking noise. When I looked up, I saw a couple of polls lying on the ground and LS and JM (who had passed by the exit) were looking back, so I assumed that one of them had dropped their poles. I tried to pick them up on the way up, but the guy who picked them up didn't hand them back to me.

At the top of the hill, I found out that CM had bent his poles at the mid stop, and JM had broken hers (which is probably why the guy didn't give me those poles). I found that funny because both of them have actually skied here.

We went across to the main hill and just before we got onto the lift, I found out that I had lost my lift ticket. While I was walking back up the trail, a lady asked me if I had lost a ticket. Apparently she saw a ticket on the trail as she went by but was going too fast to pick it up. Right after I talked to that woman, some guy asked me if I had lost a ticket. I took a look and yes, it was my ticket! Whew! *wipes brow* I had attached the lift ticket to my glove, but since it wasn't a complete loop, it went through the break during one of the more windy parts. I went in to get another ticket printed out and this time attached it to my jacket.

After that, we did some skiing. The lifts are so long compared to what I'm used to. It took a long time to get to the top of the hill, and it took a long time to get back to the bottom of the mountain. I stuck to mostly blues since it was the hardest skiing I've done considering that I've been skiing on bumps all this time. It was still very good practice for me. Since the runs were so long, I didn't mind the steepness. In fact, steep is good! I got to practice my form, and KB gave me some tips.

Since most of our party didn't actually go to sleep last night, we started losing some of our party as the day wore on. By lunchtime, we were down to half of our number, and eventually only CM, KB, and I were left. I started to get cold because I was only wearing a T-shirt under my jacket so I didn't complain when we headed back a hour before closing (the hill closed at four). KB only stayed out because he wanted to keep TB out as well. TB didn't want to be one upped by an "old geezer".

We got back to the condo and I picked up some post cards. I did some blog work and mailed off those post cards. After munching on lasagna, we headed down to the bar on site and listened to some live entertainment. CM and SS eventually took off to the other bar since nothing was happening at this one.

We eventually headed back to the room and I crashed early.
