[8:03 PM EDT - ..and so it begins.]

Ugh, I spent the last night playing Baldur's Gate 2. I figured that I might as well put together a (female) Monk character so that I had some save games for the expansion. (I can't find the save games for my - god-like - Ranger.)

Oh boy, there's a long way to go in that one..

Anyway, I heard on the news on the way to roller hockey that the Americans and British have started bombing sites in Afghanastan. I'm quite amazed as to the (very strong) British reaction to the terrorist attacks, but I guess they still remember Lockerbie. (Although I do wonder about what's going on with the whole Irish thing, although I haven't been checking news of late - nor updating much. Been too hermit-like of late.)

Anyway, I did go to play roller hockey today. It was a little chilly, but once I got the blood pumping, the cold didn't bother me (until I was sitting for a few minutes). The rink (apparently) was flooded again, but by the time I got there, half of it was dry. The boys had "borrowed" the rolling sponge things from the tennis courts and had quickly spread out the water on both sides of the rink. There were some puddles left, so I made short work of them before putting on my blades. (Someone picked up the last few after I got my stuff on.) Man, those things are SO effective at spreading out the water. Much better than our poor hockey sticks last time.

The game was very good. We had two good goalies on each side, and five guys a side. All of the guys were good, I think I was one of the worst players in the rink, which meant that I had a great time improving on my skills. Unfortunately, near the end, I crashed into one guy who got his shoulder on my throat, and that took me down for a few. It wasn't as bad as I thought it might've been. *checks for bruise* but for some reason, I was wobbly on my feet afterward (I had a few minutes to sit it out). I think I fell down three times in as many minutes after I got back onto the rink. Things calmed down afterward though.

Hopefully the weather wiill keep up for the next month or so. Those court driers were very useful. Hopefully we'll play till the end of November!

Yes, Tony certainly is scrambling, isn't he? I think it's largely an attempt to reiforce his position as a friend of George II. He's a bit of an american wannabee, really.

Perhaps he's going to try and turn this on the whole Ireland situation - it's been getting worse lately, not better.

Trying to ignore one problem by tackling another? Or is it pent up frustration for not getting anywhere with the Irish? (Or something else?)

My new theory is that he entertains fantasies of being the new Churchill - he wants to attract attacks to the nation so he can do the "bringing the nation together" thing, and convince himself that the UK is a superpower again.

But then, I'm awfully cynical. ;)

It's interesting that you bring up that point because I read an editorial recently that also made that connection. (The new Churchill thing.)
