[10:31 AM EDT - Just rode in.]

I just got back home after my ride in from Waterloo.

I just picked off some small metal shards out of my jeans. Eww.

Oh, and gravel trucks are a rider's worst nightmare. Not long after I got onto the 401, I started feeling little pricks on my knees. I was getting hit by some pebbles it seemed. However, I could not see the source of the debris, and no matter which lane I was in, I kept getting struck. My helmet was also getting hit so I tucked in to protect myself from the sand and grit that was flying at me. At first, it was the occasional hit, but every now and then I would get a blast of sand when I came up behind another vehicle. Seeing how busy the highway was, I could not avoid being behind any vehicle. Trucks were particularly troublesome as their tires tend to kick up a lot of sand. Each time I passed by a truck, I would think that I had escaped, only to feel another barrage of sand as I approached another car or truck.

This went on for over thirty kilometers before the intensity began to ramp up. I knew I was approaching the source of the sand. In the distance, I could see a gravel truck with two trailers. Unfortunately, I could not pass the truck because there were vehicles on both sides! I had to grit my teeth and wait it out as I was being sand blasted.

I guess if I had my leathers on, it would not have been as big of an issue.

[Thursday, September 10, 2009: Lunch and trip.]

I got back with enough time to get cleaned up before heading downtown to have lunch with Squishy. We spent about an hour catching up, before I rushed off to pick up MJNL from work. Well, I went home first, finished packing, and then went to pick up MJNL from work. We then headed to my parents' place where we loaded up the van, had trouble with the garage door, and then drove to the cottage.

The trip up was fairly uneventful. The GPS was working pretty well even though I did not have the exact coordinates entered in the device. We got to the cottage past six, and spent the next hour unpacking and exploring the buildings. The resort was much nicer than the one that we stayed at before, and since all of the units were connected, getting together with the rest of the family was much easier and more convenient. One problem was the noise levels though, as there were only a few private rooms, and they were reserved for the parents. The rest of the beds were basically in the open, so people moving around down stairs could end up disturbing those sleeping upstairs.

People kept arriving throughout the night, and the place was pretty full by the time we had dinner. I stuffed myself before breaking out 'Agricola (board game)'. BL had to show us how to play as none of us had ever played (or even seen) this game before. It was good that he did too, as this game is actually quite complex. It took playing a game and reading the rules afterward before I got what the game was about. We played a five player game that lasted about three hours, and that was when we called it a night.

The weekend was still young.
