[7:31 AM EDT - Up to do.. nothing?]

I wanted to do a bit of shopping this morning after I dropped MJNL off at work, but after taking a look at the mall hours for Fairview Mall and First Markham Place, I discovered that malls open up relatively late in the morning! (Heck, and MJNL was right, Chinese people do not get up early in the morning either: Open at 11am?)

[1:15 PM EDT - Taking a flight.]

I went by Buttonville to see if I could book a flight for the introductory course. While I walking through the flight centre, I noticed that there were some flight students being trained and tested there. Out of the two or three dozen students, they were all Chinese! All of them!

Ahem.

So I went shopping this afternoon. Bought Agricola, a DSL Modem, and I got some other stuff I need to do now, like see if this new modem works.

Er, which means that the website might go down for a while.

Correction: The web site will go down. The question is how long.

[11:46 PM EDT - Mostly working?]

I think I got the port forwarding to work so that the web site is viewable from the outside now.

At least that what I think I set up. I have gotten rid of the old router and used the new modem and router to get things going on this end. The only real issue I have is that the DNS servers are not being passed from the router via DHCP to the computers on the network. I have hard coded them for now so that I can see outside without having to memorize IP addresses, but it is a little annoying.

[Wednesday, September 9, 2009: Going for a Canoe trip.]

Since it was our anniversary, MJNL and I decided to finally use girl and Dangerman's Christmas present (from 2007) to celebrate by going to Canoe for dinner.

I had originally booked dinner for 8pm, but realized that the sunset was going to take place earlier than that and rebooked for 7:30pm and positioned our table so that we could see the sunset. MJNL mentioned that we had not seen a sunrise or sunset together and seeing as the restaurant was on the fifty-fourth floor (which is not a bad Chinese number), I figured that would be a better vantage point than what you would normally get in the city.

Oh yes, I also had to slip out to get some flowers. I rarely go out during the early afternoon rush, so did not realize how bad traffic was getting out of the city. Fortunately, there were so many flower shops along Avenue Road, that I just turned around when I found one and went home.

We got to the restaurant early, and had no problems finding the place. The decor was nice, and the service was very good. We were fairly near to the kitchen, so it was a little hard to hear the waiters explain what each dish was at times.

The food showcased Canadian cuisine, with foods from all over the country. Being such a vast landscape, there is a lot of variety to choose from. MJNL and I decided to try out the Taste Canoe below:

Amuse Bouche

Ingersoll Burrata & Compressed Watermelon
Cookstown Heirloom Tomatoes
Hazelnut Pesto

Ontario Peaches & Cream Corn Chowder
B.C. Spot Prawns & Hominy

Intermezzo

Hind of Yukon Caribou
Sunchoke Tarte Tatin
SOMA Chocolate Walnuts & Celery Root
Or
Wild B.C. Salmon
Dungeness Crab Hollandaise
Sweet Pea Spaetzle & Wild Puff

Peaches & Sweet Corn
Panna Cotta Corn Cake
Rosy Peach Sorbet & Candied Chilies

I found that the food was well done, although not as tasty as I would have liked. The Cream Corn Chowder was probably my favourite dish. We both wanted to lick the bowl clean. The food was well presented, and did go very well together. By the end we were both pretty much stuffed.

One thing to note was that they only had wine pairings, and no other drink parings for people who did not drink alcohol. I found that a little bit of a letdown, as I had to nurse my cranberry juice through the meal.

An alternate juice menu would have been nice, and could have showcased the various fruits and vegetables that are available in this country.
