[Tuesday, August 18, 2009: Heat alarm.]

The plan for today was to go to the beach and play some beach volleyball. MJNL invited one of her co-workers to come down to the beach with us. Our first stop was to use up our Harvey's $10 gift card along with a couple of two-for-one coupons to feed the three of us for less than a toonie! How is that for a cheap meal?

After lunch, we grabbed some water from the nearby Loblaw's before spending the next half-an-hour looking for a parking spot. We did eventually settle for a lot that was about ten minutes away by foot, but had to pay ten dollars to get in! We found out later that the guys at front were scamming us, and that we could have parked in the theatre lot for only two dollars!

When we got to the beach, it took us about fifteen minutes before we found the group. Some of them were actually ready to leave, but funny enough, nobody did. I played a couple of 2-on-2 games, although I did warn them that I was not very good. I did okay on the first game, but the second game killed me. I started feeling the effects of heat exhaustion. The sand burned to the touch, and there was nary a cloud in the sky, so the sun beat down on us mercilessly.

I have never been that good with dealing with heat, and seeing as I have not been playing ultimate for a few years, my heat tolerance has dropped significantly.

I was able to find shade and drank a lot of water. I felt better but stayed in the shade until we left. No sun worshipper am I.

After we went back to our place and got cleaned up, we headed to Brampton to have dinner with MJNL's mom as she was staying at home while the rest of the family went camping. We had dinner at 168 Sushi. The food was okay, and I ended up eating a little more than I should have considering that I had a hockey game that night.

MJNL stayed in Brampton, so I headed to the arena and got there a little late. I got traded to the other team, and like a bad luck charm, the team lost. Weird, I do not think I have been on a winning team in months!

I got home and arrived to the sound of a fire alarm. It was coming from one of the units on my floor, just down the hall. I could not hear anything from inside my unit, so I probably would not have noticed if I had not come home so late. I informed the concierge about the alarm and went back home to clean up and do laundry.
