[4:57 PM EST - Here is the scratch.]

I did not even see the light pole that was there when I was backing up into the parking spot.

If I was an inch to the right I would never have hit the darned thing.

[Monday, January 21, 2008: Rods, and sticky sticks.]

MJNL and I spent most of the day looking for rods for the curtains she got me from India. We had looked for rods before from other places (like Walmart) but Home Depot had a much larger selection and we were able to find something to suit our needs. (Namely that the brackets could be wall, ceiling, or inside mounted.)

After a bit of discussion, we decided to go with the inside mounts, and we started looking at the bedroom window to start on. We wanted it high so that there would be little gap near the ceiling, and I wanted it fairly far out so that I could put blinds behind if I so desired. We marked off the location to drill the holes, and I started to drill.

Getting through the drywall was easy, but instead of getting a gap like I was expecting, the drill hit something solid. Continued drilling proved fruitless, and after I tried using something sharper to punch a hole, I found out that I was drilling into something metallic. We decided to drill somewhere else. Our second hole was just as effective.

Yes, I did the knock test, but what sounded hollower than the firm spot was not as hollow as I thought it was. I just did not want to drill through any duct work.

We gave up on the bedroom and went to the living room, where our first hole was a success, but the second hole on the other side was a failure. We gave it one more try and found a spot where the drill did go through on both sides! So we put the curtain up, just in time for hockey!

Hockey went by okay actually. I tried out some of this spray on stick stuff that HL lent to me. The stuff is great for sticking. Unfortunately, I had sprayed it on the middle of the stick, so I lost complete puck handling ability. I tried to get rid of the glue in the middle, but eventually gave up and went back to my spare stick. Unfortunately, the glue had stuck to my gloves, so I started sticking to my spare stick as well! Fortunately, things started working when the game started, which was good for me.
