[9:44 AM EDT - Driving Conditions: Up the embankment.]

Since I started riding a motorcycle, I've been trying to be more aware of the events around me. This is pretty much a required skill if you want stay alive on a bike.

This morning on the way to work, I noticed what I thought was a cloud of dust near my peripheral vision so I turned to my right and saw a strange sight: There was a car driving up the embankment.

Now this embankment is at about a forty to fifty degree angle so it was pretty steep, and there were trees growing along it so it wasn't free of obstacles. Seeing a car driving along is thus not a common sight.

I immediately knew something was wrong, and watched it approach a clump of trees as it went out of my field of vision, so I pulled over and headed back to check on the scene.

When I got there, the car had stopped, both air bags had deployed, the windshield was cracked, the doors were open, and the driver was talking on his cell phone. The car itself had turned a hundred and eighty degrees around and was facing traffic. There were two other people there. A construction worker (there was a lot of construction in the area) and some witness in a business suit who was trying to get help. I checked on the driver to see if he needed assistance. The wounds on his face seemed superficial and he declined my offer. The air bags must have saved him from serious injury.

I hung around long enough until the two truck arrived (pretty quickly) and then took off. I didn't see the entire incident, and the other guy was going to leave his contact information so I figured that everything was under control.
