[Friday, July 23, 2004: Sharpening my chores.]

Apparently DWC's birthday was yesterday. I'll have to remember this for next year.

I got up late this morning, which is good since I needed the extra sleep. I took my mom out for lunch before heading out to do some errands. I needed to pick up a gift certificate for JK's wedding. Then I went to get my skates sharpened. As I approached the sports store, I noticed a lot of posts noting that there was some sort of sale going on in the store. I figured that this would be a good time to look for stuff to pick up for hockey. Unfortunately, I found out that the sale only applies to summer sporting equipment, so I was out of luck. I hung around for a little while until I found someone to do my skates, but then realized my folly when I went to the cashier to pay for the service. Because of the sale, there were a lot more people in the store than normal at this time of the day. In addition, most of the people there did buy stuff, which meant that the lineup was excessively long. To compound this problem, the majority of the people in line went all out and bought bags of merchandise due to the sale, and so the line was moving very slowly.

I stayed in line for about fifteen minutes before one of the guys watching the line asked me,

"Excuse me sir, did you only get your skates sharpened?"

I nodded and he motioned me out of the line to the exit. He removed the tag and told me that it was free of charge before ushering me out the door. Sweet! A free skate sharpening! I should do this more often!

<- thinks.

Wait, I was also late for work because of this, so maybe I won't do that more often. I'll just remember not to do some small purchase during a large sale. That'll learn me.

[Friday, July 23, 2004: Upgrading.]

I spent most of the day out at a client site working on an upgrade. There really wasn't much for me to do except follow the step by step procedures outlined in our project. There were a couple of issues to address, but they were quickly dealt with. All in all, everything went smoothly, and to celebrate, we went out for dinner. (Company expense of course.)
