[3:18 PM CST - Birthday lunch.]

Hey, some guy here had his birthday today, so a lot of people went out for lunch (me included). Afterward, people started filtering into the office I'm working on, and I didn't really notice until people started spilling into my cubicle. (I just thought the natives were getting restless.) Apparently there was a cake or something going around and they happened to hold the eating stuff in this office in the cubicle across from me. How did I not notice? Anyway, here I am coding away while people are chomping on cake..

<- full from lunch.

[Wednesday, October 29, 2003: Early exploring, late walking.]

I got up early again this morning, and was able to actually do some exploring before work. So I got out early and headed down to that large pecan I saw yesterday. It was in front of a nut store so I went inside to look around. They've got lots of pecans inside so I might pick up a package before I head back up to Canada.

After that, I wanted to find the "World's Largest Pecan" but drove past it. Instead I went to the post office to pick up stamps for my postcards (which I was going to get later). Man, it's expensive to send postcards in large numbers over the border!

I doubled back and headed back to the "World's Largest Pecan" and took a couple of movies. Exciting.

Finally I headed out to the site. It wasn't hard to find, there was nothing else around except for the mill. I was given a cubicle to work in and before I knew it, it was time for lunch. We went out to a Mexican restaurant because one guy in the department was having his birthday today. Apparently it was the best Mexican food in town. The hostess was awfully cute though. Then it was the after lunch party, and then it was time to go.

After work, I dropped my stuff off at the hotel and drove down to San Antonio. I wanted to see the Alamo and the River Walk before I headed back and this was an opportune time to check them out. Unfortunately, because it was after hours and so late in the year, the Alamo was actually closed and the city was dark by the time I got there. It still looked nice, but my pictures all turned out bad.

When I was parking the car, this girl drove up to me in a beat up sedan (standard to boot) asking me if I knew were the SBC was and that she had forty minutes to get there. I told her that it was my first time in the city but I looked on my map anyway. *looks* Nope, sorry hon, no dice. (Actually, she looked Chinese which was a little surprising since there aren't many orientals around these parts.)

I walked around the Alamo for a bit, but since I couldn't get inside, there wasn't really much for me to do so I headed down to the River Walk. I had no idea where to find it, but I heard some music and some running water in a park on the other side of the street so I decided to check it out before I continued searching. When I crossed the street and came to the bridge, I realized that the River Walk was actually below me. *looks down* Hmm.. nothing interesting yet.

The walk itself was a lot smaller than I had thought it might be. There's a lot of paths to walk on, but only half of it was flanked by commercial buildings. I wandered down into the walk and came across a couple asking me if I knew where the restaurants were. (Do I look like a Texan resident or something?) Anyhoo, we were able to find a map and I suggested that they try out the other end of the walk. I personally checked out the area that they had investigated and found a nice souvenir shop where I picked up some postcards. I asked the lady for good restaurant ideas, and she told me of a goot Tex-Mex restaurant (The Rio Rio) and a good steakhouse (The Little Rhine), and a good BBQ restaurant. I wasn't into Mexican food, and I wanted to try out the steak, so I headed off to The Little Rhine. She was a little quick in switching suggestions to the BBQ place because I got there and was a little shocked at the prices on the menu. Plates started at around thirty dollars. I know I can expense it, but I probably wouldn't be invited back down again if I tried out any of these wares. I headed back to the BBQ place she suggested, but I had forgotten the name. Instead, I just wandered into one that looked unfull and had some sirloin.

After that, I headed home and still haven't been able to finish writing these post cards. Darned TV! *shakes fist*
