[3:20 PM EDT - Making due with the strike.]

Ho boy, now that we've got all of the city workers on strike, not much will be happening on the city front (sportswise). Fortunately, we can still play ultimate, and we can still play roller hockey, and we can still book ice hockey at private rinks.

Hmm, so I guess everything is about the same as usual.

[Saturday, July 6, 2002: Hockey night in Scarborough.]

We went out to lunch and I nearly took the wrong turn because we had gone somewhere else for the past three days. (Three days and the same dish. Crazy! Well, I had to keep it cheap to make up for the money I spent for lunch on Sunday.)

I had ice hockey scheduled for tonight since we needed a replacement for our usual weekly game that's been canceled because of the ongoing strike. The private rink we played at looked fairly new and the facilities were really good! We actually had a high turnout (about 23) but we played an extra half-hour so it didn't seem so short and we were all happy with the ice. Now if only they had space available in the winter..

After hockey, half of us went out for dinner and JH asked a bunch of us if we were interested in playing roller hockey later that night. (It was already one in the morning at that time.) I thought he was joking, but he looked semi-serious. So then I thought he was crazy and.. well, okay I'll go with that. Anyway, I threw the idea at CC and he said,

"Well, my equipment's in the car.."

I guess I was sold. So after dinner, we were able to get eight people together to play roller hockey in the wee hours of the morning.

The places we were planning to play at seemed to have their lights set on automatic, as we noticed with one set which turned off at two. (Which was when we left the restaurant.) We then decided to go next door to set up shop. By the time we had all arrived (I needed to go back home for my equipment.) we were getting ready to set up when the lights in the lot went out. Curses!! We decided to go back to the original site since the lights on the buildling were still on. If we played near the building, we would have enough light to play by.

So, after scouting for a spot. We found one which seemed well lit and well enclosed. We set up shop and got ready to play when the security guard came out to tell us that we couldn't play there. Curses!! *shakes fist*

We kept moving around until we were far enough away from the building, and set up shop near another building with lights. Unfortunately, the pavement wasn't as smooth, the lights weren't as bright, and there was traffic. Who would've thought that people would be going through a drive through ATM at four in the morning?!? Nuts.

Anyway, we were finally able to play, and got in a few games before we called it quits. I think I made it home sometime after five. Which was good since I needed to wake up for a noon family photo shoot.
