[Wednesday, June 26, 2002: Lake Vernon.]

I woke up before sunrise, but I wasn't in any mood too get up and watch the sun rise. Besides, in my half-dreamy state, I noticed that the sky was very hazy and the sun would be coming up through the trees. Not the greates vantage point methinks. I decided to go back to sleep. When I finally got up, the sun was high in the sky and the room was bathed in reflected sunlight. Because three of the walls were lined with windows, it was hard to stay asleep.

I got up and got cleaned up (sort of). Soon enough, LB was ontop of me. She was combing her hair and decided that my hair needed combing as well. (I actually do need a hair cut, but my hair's about 10% the length of hers.) So there I was sitting on the bed with this kid scraping my scalp with her comb. She was examining the top of my head when she commented,

"Ooh, you've got a mosquito bite on your forehead."

and she proceeded to scrape more vigourously.

The first thing on the agenda was breakfast. We were busy downstairs making eggs, bacon, toast, and anything else we wanted to eat for the dozen people who were milling around the house. My eggs didn't come out as well as I had planned, probably because I was still in shock that we were using bacon grease in the pan. I hadn't used bacon grease in years! *clutches chest*

I was more-or-less finished with breakfast when LB yanked me out to play with her. This kid has energy. If you hooked her up to a generator, you'll be able to power NYC for many moons. Anyway, we (she) went tromping around the forest near her house and she showed me one of her playing areas. I was a little wary of tromping around the bush in my shorts after hearing that there was Poison Ivy about the day before, so I was a little reluctant to go trailblazing. It was probably obvious to her because after we dug a little hole for the squirrel family, and looked for acorns, we headed back to the house.

That's when I donned my trunks, grabbed some of the swimming gear (some tubes, towels, etc.), and headed down to the docks for a dip in the lake.

I was told that the water was warm, but to me, warm would mean "warm as a hot tub" as opposed to "not quite freezing". I don't react very well to cold water when I'm swimming in it. Anyhoo, I was convinced to take a dip with LB while PK went canoeing and J went snorkling.

I found out that I was still very much afraid of the water, and the I couldn't swim worth crap. All of those years learining how to swim gave me just enough confidence not to scream and flail about when I was in over my head. Even cats would react better to water than I. Anyhoo, I went swiming around with LB for a while and she wanted to show me some games and swim around. Now she can swim. She would be like "Let's go attack the canoe!" and I would be like "I don't think I can let go of the ladder!". Yup, swimming is not for me.

I guess if I did it more often, I'll get used to it and my previous training would kick in again but I don't really get a chance to swim much, and I've got other stuff to do..

What LB really wanted to do was to go tubing. Tubing meant that we needed to take the motor boat out. Unfortunately, it was docked and the motor was lifted. Neither of us knew how to start the thing, and neither of us could undo the knot that kept the boat tied to the dock. After several futile minutes of wrestling with the knot (you'd think I'd have enough practice after yesterday) she told me to give up on it and we went canoeing instead. I went in the front. The idea was to go to her friend's place and see if she was in and use their motor boat.

So off we went. It was windy that day, but we had no problems making it to her friend's place probably because we were rowing downwind. After docking, she went to check if they were home and I guarded the boat. I actually waited a long time before she came back to tell me that they weren't in. We played in their sandbox and at their dock for a while before heading back. We had some some paddle wars for a bit, splashing each other with each stroke. (I think I had the distinct advantage since I was upwind, but she started it. =) It took a little while to get back and I was really sore by the time we got in. LB still had a lot of engery left so we went swimming for a bit longer. I was pooped so I spent most of my time in the tube. By the time we were done, everyone else was gone and we tried our best to cover the motor boat before heading back up.

There wasn't much to do after that point. Just about everyone had left by that time, only PK and J were still around. J cooked some of the leftover steaks and I had a piece before packing and getting ready to go.

The trip back was fairly uneventful. I hit a traffic jam at Barrie, but that broke up relatively quickly. Apparently there was a huge accident that I missed out on, so that was pretty good. I also saw a van that nearly cut off a Civic. I guess you'd expect to see one bad driving event going to and frmo the cottage.

I did take a look at the houses on 9th line and 16th. The costs being quoted on the boards were moderately high. Between 185 grand and 285 grand. I'm tempted to take a look see as to what they were offering, but I'll need more time to shop around first. (There's also some development around McCowan.)

I got home and basically vegged for the rest of the day. I had another long day ahead..
