[8:59 AM EDT - He must be new. He must be old.]

Traffic was light on the way to work this morning, but I got hampered by a few incidents. For one, we had some guy sitting in the left turn lane with his right signal on. There was construction on the road and the left lane was blocked, which left the left turning lane and the right lane open. All the other through traffic was in the right lane, and the left turning vehicles were in the left turning lane (including me). I was the second car in the column, and there were quite a lot of cars behind me itching to turn left. When our advance turn light went on, the car in front of us did not move. I knew it. Repeated honks from the entire column forced the driver to inch his car off to the right to let us pass, but only two cars made it through before the opposing traffic was released. The driver either did not realize that we only got a left turn advance, or purposefully decided to hinder a half a dozen drivers by a minute so that he could save thirty seconds on his commute. Does not compute!

Further along, I pulled up behind a single Mazda 3 at an intersection, to avoid the long lineup (about six cars) in the other lane. When the light turned green, the car in front of me jolted forward and came to a stop. It was a familiar sight for me, although usually I was in the drivers seat: He stalled the car.

So the cars to my left passed by on their merry way while I waited for the car in front to restart and go through.

Later on, I was in a similar situation where this same car was the only one in the lane and the other lane was busy. I stopped behind this car at the intersection and when the light turned green, I watched a familiar scene in front of me and waited while the cars on my right this time continued on their merry way.

It could explain why there was nobody behind this car.

I did eventually get away from this Mazda 3, and came up behind another car at yet another intersection. I could have taken the open lane, but I needed to turn right eventually so I figured that one car would not make much of a difference.

When the light turned green, the car accelerated very slowly and slowly moved forward until it came to a slow stop fifty meters ahead. No, there were no signals, no flashing lights, no indication of what was going on. A minute later, an old lady slowly came out from the passenger side of the car. By now, I was looking for a way around this vehicle, but there was so much traffic in the other lane that I was basically stuck. It took about a minute for her to get out, and a minute to go to the back seat and look around for something. The car was still sitting there when traffic had cleared up to let me get around.

I was amazed that I was not too late into work..
