[Monday, August 16, 2010: Tommy Thompson.]

Werdna had organized a bike trip to Tommy Thompson park for the morning/early afternoon. But the weather forecast had been predicting thunder showers during the day for the past week. The whole thing looked like it was going to be called off, but we never got a message from Werdna about the final situation. When I checked the weather that morning, I noticed a sudden sea change in the weather prediction: pretty much clear until the late afternoon! Well, this was good news, since I really did want to get some exercise in.

After calling up Werdna, I found out that a couple of people canceled, and I told him that we would be late (I personally thought it was going to be canceled). When we got there, we found that JW had arrived even after canceling earlier. He changed his mind after seeing the weather and showed up late, just in time to meet up with us. So it was the four of us: Laz thought that it was canceled too, but somehow roused himself out of bed to join up with us later.

We rode down to Tommy Thompson park and just did a quick tour of the park. There is not a lot of nice vegetation to see. Most of the peninsula seemed to be made from debris and scrap from old buildings. We checked out the lighthouse and apparently the picture of Albert Einstein in the shed had disappeared.

We took photos too, yes, and met up with Laz as we were leaving the lighthouse area. We ended up checking out the bird sanctuary where there were thousands of birds nesting in the trees. I had originally thought that that part of the forest was made if birch trees, but apparently they were not: It was the birds causing the trees to turn white. Oh, and we did not enter the sanctuary, we just looked in from the border. We ended up talking with one of the park employees who was telling us about the wildlife that lived in the park. He was telling us that the birds that were living in the sanctuary now were basically killing off the trees. Not a good sign.

Anyway, we headed back for lunch and meet up with Jeanious to have a meal at Prohibition. The food was good again, although a tad bit pricey. After lunch, everyone basically went their separate ways. Werdna and I played Rock Band while MJNL took a nap. After she woke up, we went grocery shopping at the local T&T and headed home to clean up, chow down, and crash.
