[Sunday, August 22, 2010: A little wine tasting.]

MJNL and I went to St. Catherines to visit a couple of her friends from university. They wanted to go meet up and go wine tasting at Niagara-on-the-Lake. Since I was the only non-alcoholic, I was the designated driver.

The drive down was pretty busy as usual, but we still got there early. We had lunch at Joey's Restaurants, which had some tasty fish and chips and then headed out to Pillitteri Estate Winery, where we took a tour. I learned a fair bit about ice wine making and the actual winery itself. I did not partake in the wine tasting, but they had juice, so I took a sip of that. Until I found out that it was carbonated, at which point I decided not to drink anything at all.

We headed to Jackson-Triggs next, and they had a very nice ultra modern building. The next available tour was more than an hour later, so we spent some time wandering up and down main street before heading back to the Winery.

The tour here was very similar, but they charged for the tour and also allowed people to taste the ice wine. I decided to take a sip of the ice wine, since MJNL kept pressuring me to try it out. It is a sweet wine, so my palette might enjoy that type of flavour.

I took a sip and realized that I did not like the flavour and spat it out. Yes, you are not supposed to judge a wine on the first taste, but I had been drinking a lot of water, so I was pretty sure my palette was clean.

In any case, MJNL liked it and got a couple of bottles.

Afterward, the four of us went out to dinner at Linguine's (after a realizing how long the wait was at Cafe Amore). The food was meh, but somehow I ended up eating my entire dish, and part of MJNL's. I guess that was normal, although I was not hungry before the meal..

MJNL and I braved the torrential rains to drive back home. Well, I braved the rains, MJNL came for the ride. I wanted to make it back for hockey, which I was late to, and I played not so well, and we lost. I blame the late and heavy dinner. Yeah, that was the problem..
