[11:11 AM EDT - Driving Conditions: Do not speed on the 410.]

Every time I go to or from MJNL's place, she tells me not to drive quickly on the highway because there are always cops around. It is rare that I would drive excessively faster than the traffic flow. But I did take that to heart, even though I did not see many cruisers on the highway.

There were quite a number of speeders on the way back home last night. We had two racers blow by past us early on, but it was the next fast car that was of interest.

We were going fairly quickly down the passing lane on the highway. The highway itself was busy so I was actually with a column of cars that was moving very quickly down the highway. I noticed one car come up behind me extremely fast and it began to tailgate me. There was nothing I could do so I put some space in front of me and the next car.

The other car eventually peeled off and after several lane changes, squeezed in front of me. At those speeds, there was not a lot of space.

Of course, the car in front was going at my speed so it then again peeled off to try to get around the next car, but got caught in the slower lanes. During that time, I caught up to the car in front and passed by, leaving not quite enough space for the speeder to butt in.

I was looking ahead so did not see the other driver, but I wonder if he was getting really ticked, because after I passed by, he tailgated me again before he peeled off and zigzagged through traffic. As he was pulling away, I thought I noticed a dark object off to the side of the highway. I thought it might have been a car that was parked in the median or on the shoulder.

I pulled into the middle lane and looked in my mirrors to see if I could spot the object, and that is when I saw the police cruiser pull into the passing lane. There was a reason why I could not really see the vehicle: the lights were off. I waited a beat, and saw the headlights light up.

The hunt was on.

We watched as the police cruiser passed by us and as soon as people noticed the cop, they immediately slowed down by thirty to forty kilometers per hour, which hindered his progress. But I knew who he was looking for and it was not the rest of us riffraff, since the cherries were not on unless he wanted to get by.

We watched the lights disappear in the distance as we pulled off the highway.

Go get 'em.

As a driver, one of the most satisfying jobs must be to pull over these speeders, slap them with a $600 fine, and impound their car. All with a smile, no less. Go get 'em indeed!
