[12:06 PM EDT - The camera is alive!]

Not much happened yesterday. It was raining so it was mostly a time to clean up and to catch up on things I have been meaning to do.

One of those things is to work on an AXIS NetEye 200 camera I got from work. The story behind this camera was that one of our clients had been thinking of using it for their operations. This was, of course, about ten years ago now. We actually used this camera for development and I was able to play around with it when I first started working for the company.

A couple of years back, I went to the clients to display some of the new development I did with camera technology and they showed me a camera that apparently was broken. I was told,

"If you can fix it, then you can keep it."

Which basically meant, "take this off our hands".

Now, the camera itself was missing a power source, but we had one at work I could use to test with, so when I got the camera to work, I plugged it in, and tried it out, and to my surprise, it worked!

For a minute.

After running for a minute, the camera seemed to hang and the network connection shut down. I could not figure out what the heck was wrong with it, and after numerous attempts to figure out the problem, I decided to put it aside to deal with it later.

I was able to get another power source from my dad, who cannibalized a couple of other adapters to make this one, and I was able to figure out that the firmware on the device was pretty old so I decided to update the firmware to see if it would make a difference.

A few minutes later, and I got the camera up and running: it worked!

So now I have a network camera that I can link up with my website without needing it to be hooked in to the computer. These cameras cost a fortune back then, but now.. well, maybe I will just point it outside for now.

[4:30 PM EDT - Rendezvous with Clarke.]

I have been slowly sifting through all of these newspapers that I have picked up from my parent's place over the past month and came across an article talking about 'Arthur C. Clarke''s death.

What? How did I miss that? I certainly have been living under a rock these past few months.

He was one of my favourite authors when I was a kid, and I enjoyed most of his early works. I am just annoyed that I have been out of touch with the world..
