[1:59 PM EST - Driving Conditions: What is up with the signs?]

I was driving back to work on the DVP this afternoon and noticed that the highway signs had been replaced since the last time I had taken this route. The font on the signs have been increased dramatically! When did they decide to design the signage for blind people?

Ah well, at least I was able to read them.

[Friday, February 15, 2008: A single red rose.]

Well, the plan was to buy a rose, and get it delivered to MJNL downtown. Well, I did quite a bit of searching and found out that most of the delivered roses were in bunches. In addition, the costs of buying and sending these roses were quite high! Finally, I had no idea where or when to send the roses, so having them delivered was probably a good way of throwing my money away.

So I resolved to do at least two things: Find a single red rose and make sure it got delivered.

The first part is easy: I found a flower shop at Woodside Square, which was on the way to badminton. I had planned to pick up the rose the night before so that I would not be scrambling like mad today to find one. Unfortunately, I found out at the last minute that MJNL was visiting my place and I had no idea how to hide the rose from her.

Well, never fear, I went to the concierge and asked if they could hold it for me for a few hours. They put the flower in the fridge where it would be kept safe while I bounded up the stairs to an unsuspecting MJNL. After I got back from dropping her off, I picked up the rose and threw it into my fridge to keep it cool.

This morning, I remembered to bring the rose, and had resolved to go downtown myself to drop it off. I got a little bit of help from ESR who gave me a place and approximate time. I also got lucky when I found street parking near the building.

I wandered into the building while holding onto the rose. I noticed that there were no other flowers that people were holding outside, be it the givers or receivers, so I did feel a little out of place. I felt a little more out of place when I wandered in to the food court that was full of young women. One of the girls piped up,

"I wish that was for me."

Seeing as I did not recognize anyone down there, I asked for directions to the room, and headed up. The moment I stepped out of the elevator, I bumped into a couple of girls who I recognized, but more importantly, they recognized me. After a moment of organization, they left to find out where MJNL was while I hid in the bathroom.

So when I appeared with the flower with the delivery message,

"I have a flower for MJNL, is there a MJNL in the room?"

I made a pretty surprising impression.

Ah well, we went out to lunch and then I headed back to work.

Dinner was okay, since I made the food and it came out a little worse than when I tried it last year. But we had pie, and that made up for my lack of cooking skills.
