[1:17 PM EST - Canker relief?]

Now that the braces are gone, will this reduce the chance of getting an 'aphthous ulcer'?

[11:46 PM EST - I kept the tracks.]

I was a little worried that my teeth would be stained after the fact, but after getting the adhesive scraped off, I discovered that most of the discolouration was from the adhesive itself! I spent about an hour in the chair getting the brackets and adhesive off, but it was not that uncomfortable. I was rather surprised how easily they were taken off, or more precisely, how painless the ordeal was.

In any case, the first thing I did when the braces came off was to go to the sink, and floss. It felt good being able to floss again without having to spend the better part of an hour fishing string under the wire.

However, that joy was short lived. I had my permanent retainer applied to both the top four teeth and bottom six teeth. That is quite a lot actually. This means that I cannot floss eight of the gaps in my teeth that easily. Fortunately, the hard ones to reach in the back are still open. More importantly, the large gap between two of my molars has been reduced to a slightly above average tooth separation.

I will have to go back next week to get a nightly retainer, but hopefully using that will be less of an ordeal the braces were.
