[Monday, March 16, 2009: Wireless fix.]

It took a few years, but I finally got around to talking with Bell to find out what the heck was wrong with my home wireless networking. The problem is this: wireless devices can connect to my wireless network, but after a period of time, the connection would reset. The network would be dropped, and it would take about a minute for the connection to reestablish itself. This has been driving MJNL nuts for over a year now, and I finally got around to checking with Bell (instead of trying to fix it myself).

We had been getting by by using the wired connection, but carrying the cable around the apartment is a little annoying at times.

In any case, the only change that was made was to change the channel that I was using. That was it!

Since then, the connection has been pretty good. We shall see if there are any problems in the future, but it is looking good so far..

Hmm, several culprits/suggestions:

1) 2.4GHz cordless phone? Apparently they interfere and sometimes it's obvious (e.g. internet drops when the phone rings). Consider a DECT 6.0 or 5.8GHz phone instead (you may want to go with DECT 6.0 for the following reason...)

2) Upgrade to Wireless N. YMMV but my brother had disconnect issues with his G network. He splurged and upgraded the whole network to N and voila, no more dropped connections. Either it was the newer tech or maybe the fact that N operates at 5.8GHz.
