[Saturday, December 17, 2005: Mayer lunch.]

We had our company Christmas lunch today. After a morning meeting, we headed out to the Bluestone Bistro. The food was okay, although pricey. I'm glad I didn't have to pay for the meal.

The snow started coming down during lunch, and I knew I had to patrol tonight. I was half hoping that the hill would be closed so I wouldn't have to drive up there in the storm, but I knew that that would be unlikely.

Anyway, I took off a little early so that I could make it to the hill at a respectable time. Traffic was bad. Traffic was really bad. Around the office, it was basically a parking lot everywhere you went. I decided to take the highway since I thought it would be faster. I think it was: Barely. It took more more than twice as long to make it to the hill and that despite trying to take the back roads as fast as I could. I always ended up behind someone slower than me. Argh!

In any case, the hill was pretty much empty, and I was able to work on my skiing that night. I'm so not used to skiing on fresh powder. (Although our snow was actually quite heavy.)

The drive back was fairly uneventful. I was probably the fastest car on the highway as everyone was going really slowly after the snowfall. There were usually only two lanes that were cleared. The passing lane wasn't used that often and it got filled up with snow quickly after the plows had done their job. However, I was able to keep control in that lane for most of the journey down until the snow dept got closer to three inches. (I had to fight the wheel a lot at those speeds.) I'm surprised that I didn't kill myself!
