[Monday, July 4, 2005: Desperately seeking a can opener.]

The can opener my parents packed with me doesn't work. It can't seem to get a grip on the lid, so after puncturing the can, it can't seem to continue cutting. I had resorted to the can opener when I realized that I didn't have a can punch. I wanted to open up a can of chicken broth for some mushroom soup I was making, and ended up making two small slits into the can with the can opener so that I could pour the liquid out. (It took quite a long time for everything to pour out I might add.)

Anyway, I went to the dollar store today and got myself a real can opener. It also had a bottle opener and a can punch integrated in the metal design. I liked that type of can opener because it was versatile and durable. So I used it to open a can of corn for lunch. The crank fell off when I was halfway through. The thing just fell apart! I tried putting it back together again, but there was no way I was able to keep it together, so I spent the next half hour (while my stomach was gurgling) cutting the can enough so that I could peel the lid back.

Next time I think I'll go to a housewares store and get myself a real can opener (one that works and won't fall apart).

[Monday, July 4, 2005: Tidy up.]

I spent most of the day working on some chores that I had left during the week. Stuff like filling out those warranty cards, and moving those boxes. I unpacked all of the boxes now, and I've moved most of the empty boxes into the locker. I still have plenty of space in there, and I still have plenty of space in the condo, so I'm not too worried about getting more stuff.

However, the stuff down there includes my hockey equipment, which has been Febreezed, but I still don't want to keep it in my room.

I'm pretty much unpacked now, with just a bit of cleaning up left to do. I think I'll do a complete condo clean before the couch gets installed.

I also spent most of the night checking to make sure that the dishwasher, washer, and dryer all worked. They seem to be working fine, and aren't as loud as I though they would be (depending if there's water running - it took me a while to find the switch).

I still haven't gone through the home owner's package yet. I guess I should go over it tonight after I do a bit more cleaning up? Most of the mess is in my room now. The kitchen/living/dining room look a lot cleaner now.
