[Monday, April 13, 2009: Bedtime Stories on The Day the Earth Stood Still.]

We spent most of the day getting the new filing cabinet in place, fixing the bookshelf and cleaning the place up. HakkaKa, AL, and Jeanious were coming over for dinner so we had to get the place at least to a presentable state. We were close, but there is still quite a bit of stuff to reorganize. However, the place does look a lot less cluttered with the new filing cabinet in place. The only problem with it was that the small cabinet can not be used for letter hanging folders because the hanging folders would collide with the locking mechanism and prevent the drawer from closing/opening. Very annoying! Fortunately the bottom can hold weight so I am holding some other stuff in it for now.

We had quesadillas for dinner and then watched 'Bedtime Stories' and 'The Day the Earth Stood Still' remake. The former was an entertaining kid's movie, while the latter was a fairly empty movie. I would like to watch the original to see what it was like.

You must see the original. It's considered a sci-fi classic and its message at the time (anti nuclear war) still resonates. Not that I've seen the remake but from what I've heard the plot is a bit of a stretch.

We're damaging the environment and the aliens think the solution is the extermination of the human race? Riiiight. (I guess advanced civilization doesn't mean advanced ethical reasoning).
