[Monday, March 28, 2005: Cleveland ho!]

I got up extra early this morning because we were leaving the city (or planning to leave) around five in the morning. I was actually woken up by the phone. Someone called the house at some crazy time in the early morning, and the ringer was loud!

I didn't have too many problems meeting up with JT and M. Apart from the fact that I was waiting at the wrong entrance for several minutes.

We all gathered at the Tim Horton's that was on the way, and we ended up being the first car there. After a lengthy wait, we finally had everyone show up at the restaurant, and we all headed out. The plan was to do some sort of cannonball run style thing rather than a convoy, so we could drive and stop however and whenever we wanted. I was a little amazed that we were able to make it to the border at the same time (more or less)!

Unfortunately, the day's (and last night's) events caught up with me and I was nodding off at the wheel. Eventually I gave in and let M drive for the rest of the trip (about an hour or so). We didn't have time to go to the hotel to get registered and unpacked, so we headed straight to the arena instead.

[Sunday, April 3, 2005: Playing broomball again.]

So I finally got to play competitive broomball after three years. What a long time! When I got on the ice to practise, I discovered two things: The end of my broomball stick was not secure, and it came off after a couple of swings (so I had to be careful with it for the rest of the tournament). Secondly, my hockey gloves had holes in it right where the stick rubs against the fingers. After several practise shots, my skin already felt sore and I was worried about blistering.

There was a pretty easy remedy for the first one: tape up the end. I don't think I did that because I didn't have any tape on me. To solve the second problem, I went out and bought myself a pair of broomball gloves. I figured that since I was at a tournament and there was some guy selling his wares, I might as well take advantage of it no?

Our first game was the men's game, and it went a lot better than I had anticipated. We had a guy who had never played broomball before, and everyone hadn't played together as a team. We clicked amazingly well.

After our first game, I went to the hotel to register and drop off my stuff. I wasn't rooming with anyone on my team or anyone who I drove, so I figured that I could get it done and over with first.

I really don't remember all that much from the day, except that we were actually undefeated after the first day of play. A record of 2-0-1 or 1-0-2, which was not bad, although not the best.

Highlights would include the fire alarm when I was trying to rest. How come there's always a fire alarm every time I go to one of these tournaments? This one wasn't a drill. From what I heard, some person tried lighting up a joint in the elevator. Unfortunately, that triggered the alarm, and got us all out of the building. Fortunately, it was warm that day.

The hotel itself was nice. It had one of those large open areas with a swimming pool and hot tub, with half the rooms overlooking the water area. Mind didn't. Oh well.

I didn't stay up all that late tonight because I was tired from driving, so I went to bed early. Well, earlier than most of the drinkers. I did spend some time in the hot tub and pool, and debated with myself whether I would stay or not when the girls showed up. *rubs chin*

Yeah, they were kind of young, but our two young studs got busy with them pretty quick. Dang. Maybe I should have stayed. Oh well.
