[Monday, March 7, 2005: Driving Conditions: Ice storm practise.]

There was a broomball practise in Waterloo tonight and I wanted to go. Unfortunately the practise was from nine to midnight, which meant that I would be driving back tired. Those types of drives are usually very dangerous if I don't have any passengers in the car. The trip out was okay, I only ended up with a couple of strange incidents, like the guy who switched to the right lane when his left flasher was on, and this other driver who was being tailgated by some maniac. So what was his solution? Well, I was watching from the adjacent lane and I was behind a transport truck. Well, this guy was in the fast lane, and just as he was passing the transport truck, matched speeds with it. Now the driver that was tailgating him was himself being tailgated by a pickup truck behind him, who was also.. you get the picture. I figured that it was not a good time to be in the area and went to the right lane.

Practise went okay. I was told that I'd need to find myself some broomball pants, and maybe some shin guards as well. Protection cannot be worn outside of clothing. (So my knee pads have to be inside.) I also realized that I needed a new stick when I tried to make some hard shots. My stick was repaired using screws to keep the paddle on, but this didn't reinforce the paddle (which has a wooden shaft inside - which I had broken), so anytime I hit the ball, the paddle would bend and rob me of a lot of power. So, new pants, and new stick. Great.

Practise went okay, we basically scrimmaged for the entire duration. It was tiring to say the least, but it was good to get back into playing this type of broomball.

The drive back was precarious as expected. I had to take a rest stop in the city (I don't even remember where, I just remembered that I stopped, found a dark street and parked for fifteen minutes). I made it home in one piece fortunately.
