It took me long enough. I finally got around to setting up the network scanner. I had the network printer up and running, but the scanner was much less urgent. Apparently I had already did all the setup and research beforehand and set up SANE (Scanning Access Now Easy) on the server and downloaded SaneTwain on my client machine. I guess I got distracted and never got back to it because it still did not work. Apparently I forgot to allow my client machines access to that particular daemon. That was the only step I was missing!
Bah, and it only took me a few years to figure out.
In any case, the ability to scan images without having to do it from the server is nice to have. I think I will start scanning more documents..
