[10:15 AM EST - Power convergence.]

As I was driving MJNL to work this morning, we heard on the news that there was a power outage in the west side of the city. I did not pay too much heed to the information since we lived north/central, but MJNL picked up on the news and mentioned that we had witnessed it or some effects last night.

Now, I was not quite awake and not paying attention so I let that slip by me. I had thought that we saw the lights flicker at the Shoppers Drug Mart near the condo, which was also not what I would classify as part of the west side of the city.

But as the traffic crawled along much more slowly than normal, the pieces started to fit together. For one, MJNL reminded me that we had witnessed a power flicker during dinner at Korean Village Restaurant around quarter to ten. The restaurant was located on Bloor, west of Bathurst. The area affected by the power outage included Koreatown.

On top of that, I was dropping MJNL off at a site that was located on Bathurst right in the affected area. She had called in to report that she was going to be late and found out that there was no power there either.

Traffic was terrible. I think the power had just come back to some of the traffic lights since we saw a police cruiser turn off it's lights and leaving an intersection just as we pulled up.

This was the only day of the week that MJNL was going to this site to work. (In fact, it probably will be the only time in a long time.)

So this was a convergence of little things that caused me to come to work right on time, and not early as I have been all year. My usual arrival time has been around nine, but today was much later than that.

I guess I should pay more attention to the news. A piece of information I normally brushed off as inconsequential became something that affected me, at least my morning commute.
