[12:00 PM EST - No subject.]

So it seems like I've made it halfway into the week. The Canadians lost to the Russians in hockey, and I can see why, there were so many bad plays on the Canadian's part that I was surprised that the Russians didn't kick our ass earlier! Still, it was fun to watch, and there's always next year..

We had a NSERC thing going on today, some people came by and listened to why we wanted a new computer to use for science (and anyone else who'd want to use it). Personally, I think it's a great idea. We haven't gotten a new big computer here since I started working here a few (has it been that long?) years ago. I don't know how convincing we were, but we sure as heck fed them, which is nice since they had lots of leftovers and I wasn't feeling like eating Jamaican paddies for lunch.

On another happy note (anything to do with me getting free food is happy), I found a nice introductory accounting textbook which I got used for $2.25 Canadian (which is about a buck and a half American for you who live closer to the bulge). Why the hell would I buy a book like this? Well, to answer that question (which people probably won't ask unless they really really wanted to hear me ramble).. but back to the point at hand, I've been keeping very good records of my cash holdings and I wanted to see what I could do to improve on it. Well, apparently accounting is much more than what I've got currently (which would be considered bookkeeping - though I've always thought librarians were bookkeepers.. anyhoo) and it will also help me clean up the mess which I've made of the CTRL-A accounts. Oh yes, they still can be understood, and they still work, and everything still adds up, but ever since I started the job (oh so many moons ago) I've always felt a little inadequate with filling in the shoes. Keeping track and doing the bookkeeping isn't THAT hard, it's cleaning up everything so that other people could understand. So, I bought the book, and hopefully will digest it and put it to good use.

Oh yeah, did I mention that the two links were down? What's a link you ask? Well, a link is something that connects two things together, in this case, the link is basically a video classroom which connects to the University of Guelph as well as (a not as good connection to) McMaster University. The system, when it's running properly, isn't too too bad, unless you're the only one in the room and it gets quite lonely. Anyways, with both links down, it means that we'll have to drive to Guelph for some of the classes being offered this term (they don't know how long it will take to fix the component that was broken) and visa versa. I've been meaning to visit Madelaine for the past year, and I've been putting it off (yeah, yeah, I'm such a bad boy) so maybe I'll find some time to drop by ad see how her home forest has grown. Speaking of Madelaine, is it spelled with or without a second "a"? Magnifica told me that there wasn't an "a", although I've used "a" all the time. *shrug* I guess it doesn't really matter too much.

That's right, Laz just got access to his Sciborg account again. (which surprised me) Unfortunately he lost some stuff when it went off line, and he'll probably transfer the stuff off onto another account. It dawned on me, while I was talking to him, that all we talk about were usually computer related, or games related, and the scope of our conversations (every single one) was very very narrow. Indeed, I could probably foresee how the next conversation will go, just like the last one, but with more up-to-date news on the latest game or component. Then an off the wall comment that will get a chuckle. I wonder if other people are like that. Do you guys (and girls) out there have this same sort of "conversation routine" with some people that you know? Maybe it's just me. I know it's happening since I usually have very little to say. While the things I do want to ask, which WOULD expand the scope of the conversation, are probably things that could annoy people. It's hard to tell, I'm a very bad judge of character. I usually just smile and nod at whatever anyone says just so that they won't get annoyed at me, unless they're annoyed at people who keep smiling and nodding all the time. (in which case I would be screwed)

Yeah, it's kind of odd. It's usually the same level of conversation every time.. mind you, it's a different level for each person, but I guess that level would depend on the "chemistry" (and if she was cute or not - I get really stupid around cute girls). Oh well, I'll sleep on it, maybe my life will become more interesting tomorrow. (Highly unlikely)
