[10:33 PM EDT - Empty highways.]

Twice in the past couple of weeks, the highways have been emptied of traffic. Once was last week on the Gardiner Expressway when we were heading west to drop Dangerman off at a UFC gathering downtown. I noticed some flashing lights on the ramp headed east. Only then did I realize that the entire eastbound ramp was devoid of traffic! I had no idea why this would be the case until we saw the motorcade pass by a few minutes later. That was when I recalled that the Queen was in town and she was being whisked off to the Royal York from the airport.

The other time that I saw traffic completely blocked was when I was driving to my parents' place last week. I had heard of an incident that closed off the express lanes heading east on the 401, but by the time we had got on to the highway, the ramp was reopened so I felt confident that I could get through. What I did not realize was that both westbound ramps of the 401 were completely closed! I have never seen both westbound ramps of the 401 closed during rush hour, and it was an eerie sight to see seven empty lanes of asphalt at this time of the day. If I had been working that day, it would have taken me many MANY hours to get back home.

Oh yes, so apparently there was an incident at Don Mills or at the 404. Police were milling around but there was no obvious reason why they were there. The radio did not mention a reason why either, but the backup on the highway extended extremely far indeed! I pitied the fools..

Okay, it seems as if there was a body found in the ditch which was why the highway was closed for so long.
