[12:16 PM EDT - Sushi Kaji.]

MJNL and I went to Sushi Kaji for dinner last night. It was my birthday dinner and we wanted to try out one of the best sushi restaurants in Toronto. (We found the restaurant in the 2009 Restaurant Guide from Toronto Life.)

We found the restaurant in a less than trendy area of town (and quite a commute during rush hour), but the interior was nice and we were able to get seats at the bar. (MJNL had originally turned down the offer for bar seats, but I told her to call back and get us sitting at the bar!)

We sat down to an elderly Japanese couple who had already started their meal. It looked like they had ordered the largest tasting dinner: The Takumi. MJNL and I also decided on trying it out. (There are only tasting dinners, nothing a la carte.)

Our meal consisted of: Eggplant somen, Cold green pea soup, Assorted appetizer plate, Sashimi, King crab and lily bulb cake with dashi, Morel mushroom stuffed duck and simmered turnip, Grilled Japanese Ayu fish with ginger sauce, Sushi and noodle, Dessert.

I will post some photos and videos of the food and the preparation, but to sum up, MJNL thought that it was one of the best meals that she has ever had, and it is certainly near the top of my list. (I think Lobsterlicious is still at the top right now though.)

[Sunday, July 11, 2010: Young Burrito and Poutine @ Heart.]

MJNL was working today so I spent some time cleaning up the apartment. Most of the work involved the laundry, or cleaning the floor, but the main entertainment occurred at night when we went to Roy Thompson Hall to watch the Young@Heart chorus perform. Man, they are old! They had a good sketch about being American that spoofed the Molson "I am Canadian" rant.

We enjoyed the performance and afterward had dinner at Burrito Boyz and Smoke's Poutinerie. It was the first time I tried out either restaurant, and I enjoyed the food at Burrito Boyz (we had the halibut) even though the place was sweltering hot. The poutine at Smoke's Poutinerie was a bit disappointing (we had the Montreal style poutine), but their restaurant was at least air conditioned.

Finally, we rode around the Harbourfront, not knowing that there was some sort of concert that was taking (or had taken) place there so we got caught up in a massive crowd in the area.
