[7:02 PM EDT - Earthquake!]

Well, this is a first for me. I have never felt and remembered being in an earthquake. Apparently the '2010 Central Canada earthquake' was a magnitude 5.5 on the Richter scale.

I was sitting at my desk at the time and thought that someone was working on the roof, until I noticed that my desk and the blinds were shaking. When it was over, I came out of my cubicle to check with the others, and noticed that only GY had taken shelter under the desk. Everyone else was wandering around comparing notes. After a minute or so, I went back to my desk only to hear a voice commanding us to evacuate the office and leave the building.

Fearing the worst, I grabbed my phone, keys, wallet, and sunglasses and headed out with the rest of the employees. I did not realize that the earthquake would trigger an evacuation, but we ended up going outside. We waited for about half an hour with maybe 20% of the building occupants when I heard the fire alarm go off and the rest of the building poured outside.

We were told not to reenter the building and to go home. For those people who had essential items inside (like their car keys), they were not allowed in until the all clear was given. I was going to leave, but was passing the message along to the other employees. By the time I was finishing up, people were heading back into the building so I took the time to grab my stuff and left for home.
