[Wednesday, July 23, 2008: Driving Conditions: Sliding in from behind.]

Last Friday, I rode my motorcycle downtown to meet up with MJNL. She wanted to do some shopping and needed my body there to see what will fit. I had driven during the day because I was worried about rain, but the evening was supposed to be rain free so I hazarded taking the bike.

I was riding down Avenue near Upper Canada College where the road was fairly residential. I saw a light ahead that was ready to change. I had the option of speeding up to run the red light, or to stop hard.

I decided to stop hard, and was braking harder than I usually do since I usually let the engine do most of the slowing down for me. As I was nearing the intersection, I thought I heard my wheels starting to skid. The screeching was getting louder, but I realized that I was nearly stopped. I turned to my left just as the car behind me passed me with all four tires locked, and watched it come to a stop with the rear bumper level with my front tire. The driver missed me by less than a foot.

I then saw the white lights turn on and the car slowly backed up behind me again. I did not even bother looking at the driver. One of the pedestrians crossing the street leaned over and said something to me, but I could not hear what she was saying. I just nodded and took off once the light turned green.

We checked out the Jazz festival down by the beaches, and then had dinner at Big Daddy's. The food was really good! It was just a lot more expensive than I had bargained for (since I was expecting the appetizers to be half price..).
