[12:27 PM EDT - TTC walkers.]

On my way to work, I noticed a fire truck sitting next to the Lawrence East station with the lights on. The horn was not going off, so I knew that it was not moving, but it was curious to see since the fire hall was just across the street. I also noticed a large crowd around each of the subway entrances.

I found out later that the subway was closed from York Mills down to Eglington. This was reinforced by the sight of scores of people walking down Yonge street in their business attire.

I tried to find any news reports on the matter, since I heard that it was some sort of medical emergency (which would explain why the fire truck was there), but since there was nothing on the news, I am assuming that it was an attempted suicide.

Probably a safe assumption since suicides never make it into the news, fearing copycat suicides. I'm glad I had the day off today, since that's the corridor I use to get to work every day. More than once in this situation I've just hopped off the subway, hung out at a Second Cup for an hour, then got back on the subway to arrive late at work. I could get worked up about it, but when York Mills to Eglinton gets shut down (and it happens a lot), I figure that someone must be having a much worse day than I am.

I never used the subway system a lot so I never really noticed this sort of stuff happening. It was only after GWG told me about it a couple years back, that I started paying more attention to subway disruptions.

Well, I still do not use the subway system much, but MJNL does, and there have been quite a number of long disruptions in the past..
