[11:16 PM EDT - Ride for Hearts.]

Well, this year was a little different from previous years. This year, MJNL came along. The only others that were participating from last year were Laz, Derelict, and AstroChicken. Laz invited a couple of his friends to come as well, but that was it for our group.

Since Laz's friends had not registered, they went to get registered while MJNL and I got ready (we were pretty late). We got to the starting gate and hung around for a bit, played a bit of phone tag, and decided to go. Apparently we did miss them.

I let Derelict take off after we hit the Don Valley Parkway, and we lost AstroChicken a little later. MJNL was not feeling so good so we ended up doing the 25km ride instead.

At the rest stop, I bumped into JH and the rest of his family! It was nice to see a familiar face amongst the masses of riders.

They took off, and we took it easy for the second half of the (truncated) ride.

After we got to the Gardener, I was being passed (or caught up to - I cannot remember which) a bike with a flag on the back with

"Bike Lanes on Bloor!"

written on it.

That caught my attention because I remembered seeing an article in the Sun about some riders who were trying to promote bicycle lanes on Bloor Street. Apparently they stopped traffic on the Gardiner. I wondered if the rider was one of those who got on the highway two days before the Ride for Heart.

The girl on the bike looked strangely familiar. I could not place my finger on it though, and was going to let it go when another rider came up between me and her. This large fellow was wearing a bright yellow shirt so I took a look at him and recognized ASH!

Wait a minute, now I remember who this girl was! Well, this was actually a good turn of events since MJNL was having a lot of trouble keeping up, but EP was a good riding/talking buddy with her while I got caught up with ASH. The four of us ended up finishing together (more or less) and EP and MJNL were making semi-plans to get together for.. anything. (I found that a surprisingly quick bonding.)

In any case, we ate some lunch, but left before Laz and his group came back. (They waited for us at the Eglington rest station, but I had called him to tell him that we were only doing the 25km.)

We dropped the bikes back at my parent's place (the fish are still okay), bought groceries, and then headed home to do some chores. Lots of laundry, and a fair bit of cleaning.
